Powers – Legacy

“Legacy” is episode ten of season two of Powers and the season finale.

In the previous episode, “Slain Dragons”, it was seen that the most powerful Power ever, SuperShock, had basically lost his mind. He is going around killing other Powers, convinced that they are hiding Morrison from him. Calista managed to get away but the experience scared her so much she went into Powers Division and shut herself in the Drainer. Walker managed to talk her out of it – he has agreed to help her, Zora and Ramirez like they asked him to in “Origins”. Along with Krispin, who seems immune to death. Pilgrim even has something to use as bait for SuperShock – Morrison, the Ghost himself. Walker had also thought that his powers were coming back (a thought which could be seen coming), which would explain why he survived the building collapse in “Hell Night”. Pilgrim didn’t think that was likely; it looks, however, as if she might be getting powers herself, after getting splattered by some black gunk from one of the Powers Patrick killed. The glowing eyes and black smoke are a bit of a giveaway.

This episode opens in a snow-covered land with a sole figure making his way through it. It’s Siberia, 1968, and the figure enters some type of bar. He’s apparently wearing Gulag-issue clothing and the bartender offers him a drink. The man asks about the Powers, especially SuperShock. The man is Morrison.

In the present, Morrison is being kept in Powers Division, in the Drainer. Pilgrim wants to question him and Cross wants to let word out, quietly, to the media (namely Nicole) that they have him prisoner. So that SuperShock will find out. Word is therefore leaked to the press. Morrison, in questioning, states that his powers have failed him and that’s he’s been living a quiet life since, out of the public eye. Walker and Pilgrim want Morrison’s knowledge as to how they can stop SuperShock, as no-one else knows as much about Patrick. Morrison states that SuperShock is totally out of his mind, and if he wants to destroy the entire world, there is nothing anyone can do to stop him. Not exactly helpful. Morrison also reveals the truth about what happened in Caracas in 1967 – he himself had been in a Gulag for years. SuperShock was the one who caused the disaster. SuperShock turns up at Powers Division, just as desired. He’s still not stable and causes damage. He thinks Janice is still alive, and then afterwards decides that Morrison was the one responsible, and wants to kill him. Patrick believes that Morrison is the one killing all the Powers – not him. When Morrison shows his face, Patrick decides that he is a fake.

Krispin is being fitted for his outfit by Calista but Zora and Ramirez aren’t happy because they feel they weren’t consulted. Krispin himself isn’t happy, because he still hates Powers. Even though he is now one himself. Calista wants his help – for one thing, he can survive SuperShock. She convinces him to help and they turn up at Powers Division, for Krispin to be killed (again), and SuperShock to leave. Walker and Pilgrim are not happy with their turning up without anything remotely resembling a plan.

Given that SuperShock is immune to, well, pretty much everything Powers and humanity can throw at him, straight-out conflict with him is doomed to failure. However, RetroGirl was able to keep him contained for years, so Walker wants to see if they can find out how and do the same.

The post-credits scene introduces something entirely new, presumably leading into season three.
