Powers – Slain Dragons

“Slain Dragons” is episode nine of season two of Powers.

In the previous episode, “Chasing Ghosts”, Pilgrim and Kutter were looking for the Ghost. Kutter made a big speech about their relationship before going into the shop run by the Ghost. What happened then was therefore not a surprise – the Ghost stabbed him, perhaps fatally. Now, according to the Ghost, his powers are weakened, which is why he didn’t just disappear. This is an interesting statement. Patrick claims that the Ghost killed Senator Brown at the end of “Shaking the Tree”. However, Brown was killed in a manner that didn’t resemble either that of Heavy, or the Ghost, who doesn’t appear to be what he once was (and why would the Cobalt Knight be having a friendly drink with either of them anyway?). Frankly, the only Power known who seems could have killed Brown like that is, in fact, Patrick. Krispin is also not dead, and it seems he can come back from the dead. The zombie Chaotic Chick he’s seeing may simply be a figment of his mind.

So, this episode opens in the Past, in Los Angeles, 1998, with Walker, as Diamond, in bed with two women when SuperShock lands on his balcony. Patrick isn’t totally happy about how Diamond has been using his powers. So, as a favour to Janice (Retro Girl), Patrick is willing to teach Walker how to handle them. Diamond is a wee bit arrogant, and basically says he doesn’t need a mentor. Two years later and a badly injured Diamond is in the back of an ambulance along with Cross. If it wasn’t for the fact that Walker definitely survived, it wouldn’t look good for him. There are other clips from the past, as it appears that the ambulance incident was when Wolfe took Walker’s powers, and how he starts getting things back together again. With the help of Cross.

Back in the present and Pilgrim is in Walker’s apartment looking through the files when Walker arrives on the balcony. He says that SuperShock has lost his mind (okay, Patrick has seemed to be acting a little unstable). Patrick had flown him back to the apartment though. Pilgrim mentions Morrison, the Ghost, but Walker says he doesn’t exist – at which point she tells him that Kutter is in a coma because of him. Walker still believes that the Ghost doesn’t exist.

Calista, Zora and Ramirez are on a rooftop talking about SuperShock, who Calista also says is losing his mind. They’re concerned about going up against the most powerful Power ever, and decide they really need to speak to Walker.

At Powers Division, Commander Cross shows Walker the now-alive Krispin. Walker, once he gets over the shock and is convinced it is Krispin, is very pleased to see him alive. As is the current medical examiner, who is over the top excited to have a live, reanimated Power to examine. Walker wants her to help figure out how Krispin came back. Walker doesn’t know of anything similar happening in the history of Powers. Walker asks Pilgrim to come to the morgue – when she sees Krispin alive and moving on the examination table, she shoots him. Repeatedly. Fortunately it doesn’t take.

Walker is still suffering from whatever it is, and has a seizure in the morgue in front of the ME, Cross and Krispin – the ME says she can only determine what’s the matter with him after he dies and she opens him up. Not helpful. She does say that contact with Powers may be affecting him. Slightly more helpful. Cross isn’t happy either, as he didn’t know about the seizures, and orders Walker to see a doctor. One who specialises in people who are still breathing.

Pilgrim is still not convinced that SuperShock is the problem, and still believes it’s all Morrison, but Walker has a letter from Janice warning them about this. Pilgrim still doesn’t believe it. Cross is seriously worried by the idea. Then a Power falls out of the sky and dies quite messily. Only it doesn’t look like she fell. She’s also just the first.

Walker gets an idea regarding his seizures, one that could be seen coming. He might not be right though.
