“The Weight: Part 1” is episode one of the fifth and final season of Andromeda.
In the previous episode, the season four finale, “The Dissonant Interval: Part 2”, things looked pretty bad. In fact, it looked like everyone but Dylan had been killed, Arkology had been destroyed and so had the Andromeda Ascendant.
The only ‘death’ that was actually seen, though, was that of Rommie, when she exploded. The Andromeda Ascendant had been destroyed, when Trance took it into the Magog worldship whilst transforming into a sun.
Dylan, meanwhile, had gone through the Route of Ages and emerged in a strange place where he met himself. Now, he has appeared on a strange, barren planet in a strange system with nine identical planets orbiting twin suns, with a few hostile inhabitants.
Rhade is there as well, and he isn’t happy with Dylan. It’s been nine months for him, whilst for Dylan only minutes have passed. It could be that some of the others have survived, too.
