“Savage Seduction” is episode four of season five of Warehouse 13.
Myka is in the B&B, by the looks of it working on her laptop, when Pete starts reading what she’s doing over her shoulder. She is, sort of, working – she’s actually writing a book. She hasn’t got very far as yet (Pete gives her advice on what to write through the episode). Artie arrives and says he’s got a ping – but for Jinks and Claudia. Artie is concerned about Claudia – in the previous episode, “A Faire to Remember”, Claudia managed to bring her sister Claire out of her coma, but only for a day. The method Claudia tried was one that Artie had already rejected, as the artefact infection in Claire went to a new host – Myka. In order to get it out of Myka, Claire took it back and was put back into her coma. So Claudia is researching more ways of curing Claire (which is something Artie has been failing at for 15 years). Artie therefore wants Claudia distracted.
Then Kelly, Pete’s ex who left him in “Reset”, turns up. She wants help, and she’s rather pregnant. So Pete panics, but Kelly points out that it’s two years since they were together, it’s not his and she’s married. Kelly wants Pete and Myka’s help because she says that her grandmother’s television is possessed. The television is playing Kelly’s grandmother’s favourite telenovela (the titular Savage Seduction). And glowing. And the television is unplugged. And the series was cancelled and ended the previous night. So, not normal. Kelly says her grandmother is also missing – but Pete spots her. She’s in the telenovela. The TV is not the artefact, and it seems that the program can be entered through it – as the cat joins her. It’s also showing the series finale, in which the character that Kelly’s grandmother is playing gets murdered. Which does not sound good.
Then, when someone narrowly misses dropping a plant on her grandmother’s head, Kelly rushes at the television to be grabbed by Myka. So both end up in the program – and it seems the characters they are playing do not like each other. With them both in the programme, they are both talking in Spanish. Lots of subtitles. When Artie arrives, Pete is sitting watching the programme and eating – even though he doesn’t understand Spanish. Artie does, and they discover the artefact is in the programme. Deactivating the artefact when anyone who enters starts playing a character may be tricky. Artie has an artefact to help them stay themselves and not get taken over by the characters. More Spanish and more subtitles – definitely an episode that needs concentrating. And lots of overacting.
Jinks and Claudia’s ping is related to a college student (Claudia does not think much of college) whose spine broke in three places. In class. He was giving a presentation when a shadow apparently came flying into him and slammed him against the wall. The student is apparently a bit of a slacker, but was giving an excellent presentation prior to what happened. The hospital also says he has alcohol poisoning, but the lecturer says that he was stone cold sober. However, the student was apparently really, really drunk and hung over half an hour before the lecture. That can’t be a coincidence. The trail leads to a fraternity – and things get complicated.
Not the most serious episode ever. Until the very end.
