“A Faire to Remember” is episode three of season five of Warehouse 13.
In the previous episode, “Secret Service”, Claudia discovered the truth about her older sister Claire and what happened to their parents. Claire, under the influence of an artefact – one which Claudia recognised as being dangerous, despite being a child – had killed their parents. As, prior to this, Claire had also destroyed the artefact which had infected her, she couldn’t be released from its influence. So, she’s being kept unconscious by the Regents to stop her from going all Carrie again.
This episode opens at a Renaissance Faire with the king opening a tournament for his daughter’s hand in marriage. A jester comes on stage and makes a very bad job of juggling, to heckling from a crowd member, when there’s a puff of smoke and a flash of light and another jester appears. The second jester approaches the heckler and holds out a sceptre with a fool’s head, from which sparks emit, hitting the heckler. The heckler laughs before he falls to the floor, apparently having a heart attack, and the second jester then disappears.
Artie says that he has finished the new Dark Vault – which incorporates some of Paracelsus’s designs – and needs help putting the artefacts back in. Myka does not want to go to a Renaissance Faire. Nor does Jinks. Pete is more enthusiastic. Claudia and Myka are remaining behind to help Artie, although Claudia is missing, and Jinks is accompanying Pete. Finding the jester with the artefact is not going to be easy. He – or she -was wearing a mask, and there are a lot of jesters at the faire. So Pete and Jinks have to speak to a lot of jesters, checking lots of things to see if they are artefacts. Jinks finds this really annoying. The jester was only the first incident; there are others, all different.
The reason that Claudia was not present is because she at Regent Châtelet – where her sister is being kept. She is planning on waking up her sister from her coma, despite what Artie said. Myka finds Claudia, but rather than stopping her, Myka wants to help. With the music box that infected Claire destroyed, Claudia plans to suck the artefact energy out of Claire and store it, using other artefacts. Combining artefacts is dangerous, so what could possibly go wrong? Something does of course.
