“Captive Pursuit” is episode six of season one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
A damaged ship comes through the wormhole. This is the first ship from the Gamma Quadrant that has come through it, so this marks the first encounter with a civilisation from the other quadrant.
The pilot of the ship appears to be running from something. His actions are occasionally suspect, but O’Brien still takes a liking to him. Then his pursuers arrive.
What the first alien was is the prey in a hunt. The pursuers have bred his species for intelligence and skill in evading them, to make the hunt as exciting as possible. The end result is supposed to be the death of the prey.
Sisko is not impressed with the concept of hunting intelligent beings, but he’s limited to what he can do. O’Brien decides to take matters into his own hands and help the prey escape his hunters.
