“We Are the Flash” is episode twenty-three of season four of The Flash and the season finale.
In the previous episode, “Think Fast”, DeVoe used the S.T.A.R. Labs satellite to replace the one Barry destroyed.
Captain Singh is in Cocojitters to tell him he is getting his job back when purple light bathes everything and all power goes out.
The Cortex systems are down when Joe and Cecile arrive; she’s having contractions. Caitlin says she can deliver the baby. Power comes back up and Cisco tells Barry he needs to see something. He shows Barry how DeVoe had taken the dark matter that Harry used to power his thinking cap, as DeVoe had predicted it. Harry was the guinea pig; if DeVoe could reboot Harry he could reboot everyone. Barry doesn’t know what to do. Iris turns up with Marlize. She has an idea.
Marlize says they need to put Barry into DeVoe’s mind and find the good part that’s still left of him and get him to take over the bad. DeVoe created the bus metas so that their combination of abilities would defeat anyone they could get to help. They need Cecile to transmit Barry’s consciousness to DeVoe.
Barry is going to use the Thinker’s chair and is put into DeVoe’s mind. Where he came out of the Speed Force in “The Flash Reborn”. DeVoe is there and Barry tells the others what’s happening. Marlize says to find the nexus of Clifford’s brain. And to go to their house. Which is empty.
Cecile is having contractions and Marlize says she needs to stop that. Because if she gives birth, Cecile loses her powers and Barry gets stuck in DeVoe’s mind. Caitlin has an idea. Then Cecile says something odd in a strange voice, Killer Frost’s it sounds like, about someone called Thomas.
Cisco thinks Harry can help. Harry is with the thinking cap and needs help. And Cisco activates it. Harry says Barry should go where DeVoe and Marlize fell in love.
Barry goes there, and finds where the picnic was, but no DeVoe. However, Ralph is there. Barry explains what he’s doing; Ralph hasn’t seen a good DeVoe, only the evil floating chair variety. Who appears at this point and says he expected it.
Cecile tells the others that DeVoe is coming for them.
Ralph suggests trying the place where DeVoe was just a simple history professor.
DeVoe arrives and is stopped by the force field. He says he never pursued the Flash, because with Barry in his mind, he gets everything Barry has. Marlize says he will have to find them first and transports everyone to DeVoe’s lair.
Barry and Ralph find the good DeVoe. He’s dead. There wasn’t a second plan, but Barry has an idea. Head to the nexus of DeVoe’s mind. If Ralph gets out, he can take control of his body again. No more DeVoe. This is easier said than done.
