“Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11” is episode one of the fifth and final season of Fringe.
At the end of the season four finale, “Brave New World: Part 2”, September said ‘They are coming.’ This episode opens with Walter narrating about how the Observers came and that they had a plan to fight, but were forced to amber themselves. Then it continues on from “Letters of Transit”.
Peter wakes from a dream about him, Olivia and Henrietta on the door the Observers invaded and they lost their daughter. He goes to see the now-adult Etta. Walter wakes as Peter finds Astrid. Walter says they need to find Olivia. The last time they spoke, she was in Columbus Circle 2015, the day she disappeared. The line went dead. Walter had sent her to get something from Grand Central Station to unlock the plan. Walter and September had worked on it, and September scrambled the information in Walter’s mind so it couldn’t be read. This item would unscramble it.
Columbus Circle is wrecked and the park is gone, replaced by machines pumping carbon monoxide into the atmosphere; the air is too oxygen-rich for the Observers. Astrid notices some amber; Walter had given Olivia an ambering device as a last resort. However, everyone in the amber has been removed. By amber gypsies, according to Etta.
Etta takes them to a market where such are sold. She sends Peter and Astrid in, as Fringe Division often cracks down on amber gypsies. However, they can’t find Olivia. When described, the dealer says she’s been sold.
To Markham, as it happens. Peter and the others turn up there, break in and disarm him. It seems Markham had got a bit fixated on Olivia after he met her and wanted to be the one to wake her up, so she saw him as her saviour. When he figured out how to wake her up.
The amber dealer is currently calling the Observers.
Olivia’s amber is put in the back of their truck and Peter wonders where Walter is. He’s looking through Markham’s books when an Observer turns up and claims ‘Resistance is futile.’ Etta feels she’s heard that before and shoots the Observer. Another appears and knocks her down before she gets him too.
Peter hears sirens as Etta comes out. Walter isn’t there and they have to flee when they come under fire from Loyalists. Walter ends up cornered and captured.
Walter knows the plan, even though it isn’t in one piece, but he’s now a prisoner of the Observers. In order to find out what the plan is, he needs rescuing.
