“Brave New World: Part 2” is episode twenty-two of season four of Fringe and the season finale.
In the previous episode, “Brave New World: Part 1”, Walter and Astrid encountered William Bell. Now Bell is showing Walter a projection of his new universe. It will soon be ready, and he couldn’t stop it now if he tried.
Olivia and Peter arrive at the lab and can’t find Walter or Astrid. Olivia gets Astrid’s voicemail. Peter asks if Olivia wants to talk about what she did on the roof. He also wants Walter to run more tests. She agrees. Then Jessica Holt rings and says she thinks someone is following her. There’s someone already in the house. After the call, this is revealed to be September. Who steps forward, then can’t move, because of a glowing symbol on the floor.
Olivia and Peter arrive at Jessica’s to find Jessica gone. As is September, as there’s only a hole in the floor where he was. Not that they know that. Broyles rings; Astrid is at Boston General. She’s been shot. Someone called 911, though. And Walter isn’t there.
Astrid explains they were at a warehouse looking for Bell. The one where she was shot. She’s told that’s not where she was found. Astrid says that there were armed men there who probably took Walter. She gives them the address. And there were strange animal sounds.
They head to the warehouse and find September there, still on the piece of floor. He says he isn’t there of his own volition. Then Jessica appears with a gun. She says that if they ever want to see Walter again, Olivia needs to put down her gun. SAhe says this is a future September didn’t foresee. Bell thought if Olivia was put in harm’s way, September would appear. Jessica shoots at September, who catches the bullets. She explains that it’s just tech that allows the Observers to move very fast. Jessica then uses another gun which shoots faster. And September now has the injury he’s been seen with before. However, when Jessica tries to kill him, Olivia catches the bullet and throws them back at the same speed.
September is freed and Olivia explains how she’s seen him before like this and what he said. September says he hasn’t had that conversation yet and will investigate. He vanishes. Peter says they can still question Jessica. She’s taken back to the lab and Nina Sharp arrives with the technology to do that. Nina says Bell needs something from Olivia that only Olivia can provide.
Bell is talking to Walter. He says this is Walter’s idea. Walter hated God, after both Peters died. And decided to create a new universe without suffering and pain. When Walter realised he could do that, he asked Bell to cut the idea out of his brain. But as Bell grew older, more cynical and got cancer, his opinion changed. Cortexiphan has slowed the cancer, but not stopped it.
William Bell is destroying the two universes to make a new one. And it seems Olivia is part of this. And September told her that in every possible future, she has to die.
