The Flash – Killer Frost

“Killer Frost” is episode seven of season three of The Flash.

At the end of the previous episode, “Shade”, Wally volunteered to help them find Alchemy’s lair. Alchemy was confronted, although this didn’t go quite to plan. Wally picked up something that Alchemy left behind and ended up cocooned. The another speedster, a large silver metal one, grabbed Barry and announced that he was Savitar.

Savitar is telling Barry that he may rule the Speed Force but he rules it. He is a god, Savitar. Alchemy and one of his acolytes have Joe, but he breaks free. However, Joe can’t see Savitar. Barry tells him to open fire anyway, but Savitar tells Barry that they are going for a run.

H.R., Iris, Cisco and Caitlin are watching Barry from S.T.A.R. Labs. The tracker in Barry’s suit is appearing and reappearing all over the city. Cisco says it’s impossible, the suit may be malfunctioning, as Barry can’t move that fast. H.R. says that maybe someone else can. Another speedster, one that’s faster than Barry. Iris wants them to do something to help but what? Only Barry can see Savitar. They have stopped at the waterfront though. H.R. has a plan, a good one he says. It’s currently one against one, so make it three against one. Cisco can open a breach to the waterfront and he and Caitlin can join Barry. Caitlin is concerned that it’s too dangerous, but agrees. They still can’t see Savitar, but Caitlin manages to ice him up. Savitar breaks free and speeds off.

Barry is fine and Caitlin says that Cisco gave himself a ministroke opening a breach. That worries him, until she says that a few aspirin and Cisco will be fine. He feels she should have opened with that. Using her powers does seem to have had an effect on Caitlin, as her mother warned her in “Monster”. Alchemy is just a lackey and H.R. wonders why Barry is the only one who can see the other speedster. Although Barry says he’s more than a speedster. Even from Barry’s perspective he seemed to just jump from place to place. H.R. recognises the name Savitar though – the Hindu god of motion. Crossword puzzles. So, yet another speedster that is faster than Barry. And this one did claim to be a god.

Wally is still alive in the cocoon although Caitlin says that his vitals are subdued, as if he was in a coma. Barry was in a coma when he got his powers. When asked if they should get Wally out of the cocoon, Caitlin’s answer boils down to she doesn’t know. Joe needs to do something, and he can’t help at the lab, so he heads to the precinct to question one of Alchemy’s acolytes. Said acolyte is less than helpful. Then Caitlin knocks on the interview room door and tells Joe that Wally is fine and out of the cocoon. She enters the room and disables the camera, wanting to know where Alchemy is. Caitlin tries some enhanced interrogation but this causes enough fuss to draw other officers. Exiting. Caitlin bumps into Julian (and why was he out of contact when they were after Alchemy? A coincidence or something else?) and takes him with her. When Joe arrives at the lab, he discovers that no, Wally isn’t out of the cocoon.

Barry heads to the precinct and a detective, Patterson, tells him that his friend is in trouble. Meaning Julian. A female meta kidnapped him and disabled the cameras so they couldn’t see her. Patterson wonders if Barry recognises her. Barry claims not to. Caitlin wants to find Alchemy, and do so using his followers. She wants Julian to create an algorithm to search for a term. Not Alchemy, but Savitar. It looks like Julian recognised the name. Which he really shouldn’t.

The more Caitlin uses her powers, the more she is becoming like Killer Frost. Who had a definitely chilly personality. H.R. has another idea about finding Caitlin. He asks how they tracked Captain Cold, who also had a similar chilly effect on his environment. Cisco realises what he was getting at and tracks Caitlin to a frozen food warehouse. Julian has found two individuals and also contacted the police from his laptop. Barry arrives at this point and, when Julian repeatedly demands he knock Caitlin out, knocks Julian out instead. Caitlin wants Alchemy to get rid of her powers. Caitlin’s personality is definitely affected at the moment, and she tells Barry all the ways he’s failed his friends. Including telling a listening Cisco that before Barry altered the timeline, Cisco’s brother Dante was alive. The police arrive and Barry speeds Caitlin out of the way, but she stabs him in the leg to cripple his speed, telling him that it will take 4 hours to heal.

So, Caitlin is on the loose and getting more and more like Killer Frost. Wally is in a cocoon where no-one knows what’s happening to him. Especially as his doctor has just taken off. And Cisco is not happy with Barry about Dante – again.
