“Inauguration” is episode twenty of season seven of Stargate SG-1.
A new US President is being inaugurated. He is a bit nervous, and he doesn’t know about the Stargate Program. When he is briefed on it, he initially assumes it is a joke (a new President not knowing about such an important program is not out of the question; Harry Truman wasn’t informed about the Manhattan Program until after he was sworn in, despite having been Vice President prior to that). His Vice-President is former Senator Kinsey, who, of course, knew about it previously.
Kinsey, of course, has his own agenda, and wants the new President to start replacing people immediately – given that no-one in the program currently either likes him or holds him in high regard. He has some suggestions, naturally. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs informs the President that Kinsey, in the episode “Disclosure”, had tried to take over the Stargate Program. So, we see flashbacks to a flashback episode. Kinsey had previously tried to get the program shut down in “Politics”. The President doesn’t seem to have a very high opinion of his Vice President. Which does mean that he has something in common with the people of the SGC.
Kinsey summons Mr Woolsey to present a case against the current command of the SGC. So we, yet again, see flashbacks from previous episodes. Mr Woolsey shows that he has a conscience, but there is minimal interaction from any of the regular cast, with only General Hammond appearing. Far too many flashbacks and not enough episode.
