Powers – Stealing Fire

“Stealing Fire” is episode four of season two of Powers.

In the previous episode, “Hell Night”, Calista and Zora had teamed up against the rioters, along with Pilgrim and Kutter, but were not doing so well until Super Shock appeared and largely scared everyone off. Walker had gone to find Chaotic Chick, and had found her. She said that she wasn’t responsible for Krispin or RetroGirl’s deaths, and was being used by someone she had trusted. As the building started to shake, Chaotic Chick said he had arrived, and that they needed to get out of there because ‘he’ was going to kill her. Then the building collapsed on top of them whilst outside a new player, a Power who would appear to be involved with the anti-Power movement (presumably for his own reasons), danced away after collapsing the building. At least he has some style.

This episode opens the next day with rescue crews at the site of the collapsed buildings. They aren’t finding anything there. Then the FBI agents arrive and the dogs finally find something – the severed arm of a woman. Along with a laptop. Agent Lange keeps trying to get involved, but Powers Division is having none of it. The dogs find something else and Agent Schlag lifts part of the building off Walker – injured but alive.

There’s a clip of Walker and Lange, back when he still had his powers. It seems that they used to be an item. Walker himself is actually in a hospital bed, so presumably he’s dreaming. There are more clips relating to their past relationship throughout, including after Walker lost his powers. And what caused the rift – which was him assisting in her arrest. Pilgrim is waiting in the hospital room when Kutter arrives – she’s blaming herself for getting intimate with Kutter after he saved her life instead of watching Walker’s back. Calista is working as a waitress although in a disguise. Probably just as well, given that she’s all over the television. However, her estranged father recognises her – and he doesn’t have her best intentions at heart.

The arm has been taken to autopsy – it’s presumably Chaotic Chick’s but that isn’t known for sure yet. There’s an analogue watch on the arm’s wrist, and it’s spinning backwards. Apparently caused by gravity waves. The Power that did it is not in the official Powers database, but Triphammer has his own, not exactly legal, Black Swan database, and he finds a Power called Heavy.

Walker, once he wakes up, is sure it’s all connected somehow – RetroGirl’s murder and the framing of Krispin and Chaotic Chick for it, but he doesn’t know how. He also decides to go and make nice with Lange again, to try and get information. This has some unfortunate side effects.
