“Avalon: Part 1” is episode one of season nine of Stargate SG-1.
This episode opens with a new team member, and the new leader of SG-1, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, played by Ben Browder, who was previously best known (in science fiction series anyway) for playing Crichton in Farscape, and a new commander of the SGC, Major General Hank Landry. Apparently, Sam, Daniel and Teal’c have all left the programme, as has O’Neill.
Mitchell is disappointed because he had wanted to work with the members of SG-1, not choose a new one. The first part of the episode deals with him trying, and failing, to talk the others into rejoining, then interviewing new potential members. Until Vala (who is also from Farscape), from “Prometheus Unbound”, returns and tricks Daniel into helping her discover an Ancient treasure.
There are lots of flashbacks to the Antarctic battle in “Lost City: Part 2” in which Mitchell took part in flying an F-301.
With the reference to Avalon, there is, of course, a connection to King Arthur.
The story continues in “Avalon: Part 2”.
