“Kali: Part II” is episode thirteen of season two of Sanctuary and the season finale.
In the previous episode, “Kali: Part I”, Will had become the host to a small Abnormal spider, a macri, which allows its host to communicate with Kali, a much larger Abnormal spider that dwells in the ocean. Edward Forsythe was also looking for this spider, and captured Will so that he could remove the Abnormal from him and become its host itself. Once the host no longer has the macri, they die. Worse, Kali is the Abnormal called Big Bertha in “Veritas”, an Abnormal that Magnus was supposed to have killed because she is too dangerous, having the ability to cause earthquakes using electromagnetic pulses. Magnus felt that destroying Big Bertha was too risky, as it was impossible to know what long-term effect that might have. So she didn’t – a decision that is probably not going to go down well. Kali/Big Bertha is now free and Forsythe is in communication with her. Things are probably going to get bad.
Forsythe has left Will to die, with him and his men leaving the warehouse prior to the Sanctuary forces arriving, taking the old woman with him, as she belongs to the Cult of Kali. Will is taken to the Mumbai Sanctuary, but he is dying. Magnus can slow, but not stop, his deterioration.
Magnus is troubled by her decision – breaking the rules she wrote – to keep Big Bertha alive. Kate says that it was the right decision, because Big Bertha is connected to the ecosystem. More Abnormals around the world are acting oddly and revealing themselves to the public.
What Magnus wants to know is how Forsythe – his identity isn’t known yet – put everything together, treating myths and legends that predated any of the Egyptian dynasties as fact, using them to track down Kali. What Forsythe is also after, once his identity is discovered, is another question. He’s a billionaire and, although billionaires often want more money, this is not that productive a way of getting it.
Will is still having visions of Kali, even with the removal of the macri. Forsythe, although he can communicate with Kali, cannot see her. This means that Kali does not really have a true herald at the moment, as there are two people who can each influence her actions. The rest of the Sanctuary Network is upset with Magnus, and her refusal to euthanize Big Bertha. This is definitely going to cause problems.
The season ends on a cliff-hanger, with the story continuing in season three and “Kali: Part III”.
