Powers – Aha Shake Heartbreak

“Aha Shake Heartbreak” is episode eight of season one of Powers.

This episode opens with a young Johnny Royalle and Walker in the latter’s new apartment (the one he is still living in. Walker is pushing Jonny to use his powers to their full ability. It then returns to the present, where an older Royalle is asking for Walker’s help to kill Wolfe.

During the nice chat between the two old former friends, Johnny explains how he made Sway. In the previous episode, “You Are Not It”, ‘Big Bad’ Wolfe had explained to Johnny that, when the Drainer stops working briefly, as it frequently does, he could sense a huge pool of power out for the taking. Wolfe had realised that he can feed on everyone who has taken Sway, drain them of their powers from a distance without having to eat them (or, as he points out, ruin his clothes). Wolfe had lied when he said in “The Raconteur of the Funeral Circuit” that he wanted to be permanently Drained. Which is no great surprise. Royalle also questions Walker’s motivations, given that the latter was able to take Wolfe’s powers, not his own, in “Paint It Black”.

Calista has finally taken Sway, and it hasn’t killed her. So it appears she does actually have powers, rather than being a simple wannabe. However, if she has powers, they, as yet, haven’t actually appeared. So Calista considers taking extreme (and potentially really stupid) measure to get them to show.

At the end of the previous episode a Power, Jump Striker, was lured into an alley, briefly disabled and then killed in front of a Kaotic Chic tag. Whether this was done by, or at the instigation of, Chaotic Chick is not known for certain as yet, but Walker is one of the investigating officers.

Retro Girl sees Triphammer, who is working on developing the Drainer to make it portable. He reveals to Retro Girl some more about the Black Swan threat that was previously mentioned. Retro Girl herself is getting tired, and thinking of just walking away.

Zora’s publicist (who also happens to be Retro Girl’s) plans to stage a fight for Zora at the Retro Girl Mentorship Foundation in order to boost her profile. Without telling Zora. Like that doesn’t have the potential to go drastically wrong.
