Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – A Life Spent

“A Life Spent” is episode three of season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the previous episode, “Orientation: Part Two”, Daisy had followed Deke and discovered he had an operation that was based on the Framework. It seems that Virgil wasn’t the only person who had any answers; Deke seems to perhaps know even more of the past (he may be being set up to be a Loveable Rogue). Deke said that S.H.I.E.L.D. had already tried and failed to save the planet and that he knew what had the force to tear the Earth asunder – Quake. Daisy, in other words. If true, that would put Daisy’s power level up there way up with the most powerful superheroes and villains.

Simmons has caught the attention of Kasius, the Kree ruler of the Lighthouse, by trying to save one of his human servants. Said servant was permanently scarred, and Kasius cannot have servants who are not perfect. So the man Simmons tried to save is now dead and Simmons has joined the ranks of Kasius’ servants. Despite Simmons having skills – and an attitude – not seen in the other humans in the Lighthouse, Kasius does not seem suspicious. Either he’s a bit dense or he is playing a game with her.

Kasius put something in Simmons’ ear that is affecting her ability to hear – and see perhaps. The only thing that she can hear is Kasius, and only when he wants her too. Kasius has a guest, a Lady Basha, who arrived on a spaceship at the end of the previous episode. According to Lady Bash’s emissary – who appears human, not Kree, and not one of the Kree’s human slaves either, so is he human or something humanlike? – the lady wishes to dine on her ship in preparation for the ceremony.

There is a problem with the ceremony, one that Kasius wants Simmons to fix. The ceremony is for a girl, an Inhuman who can’t control her powers. Kasius wants Simmons to help her control them. It seems that Kasius, as important as he might be locally, is not that important galactically.

The other, except Daisy, are now working salvage for Grill, and have had metrics fitted as a result. Which means that Grill essentially owns them for now; not a situation they are happy with. Coulson is trying to decipher the notebook that Virgil had hidden, as he believes it is important and there is something out there, amongst the ruins of Earth, that will help. Grill believed that Virgil was skimming and that Coulson and the others have now taken over the racket. Of course, they haven’t, but they are hardly acting in a manner that doesn’t look suspicious.

Daisy is not happy with Deke telling her that she quaked the Earth apart. She insists that her powers are not that strong; Deke says they will be in time. There’s also the matter that Daisy is not in the past to destroy the Earth either, but Deke mentions multiverse theory – namely, this Daisy is one from a different multiverse to the one that destroyed the Earth. Daisy plans to rescue Simmons from Kasius, but Deke is not happy about how she plans to do it. He wants to play the long game and insinuate themselves gradually, getting invited to see Kasius. Daisy is not willing to risk Simmons’ life on waiting.

The post-logo scene has the bit from the season four finale, “World’s End”, post-logo scene included in it. Finally, they are up to that point.
