“Father and Son” is episode nine of season one of La Brea.
In the previous episode, “Origins”, Aldridge told Eve that Isaiah is Gavin. She’s telling Eve that they need to get Isaiah to Topanga. Aldridge starts coughing up blood and Eve heads outside; they need Sam.
Izzy, Nathan and Gavin are by the sinkhole outside Ella’s house; they must have come through it as a kid. Ella then appears; she wants them off her property. Gavin says they need her help; he thinks she’s key to maybe saving his family.
Scott is taking a puff when a cow walks past. He wonders if it’s a hallucination. At the camp, he tells everyone he saw a cow in the woods. He has to explain that cows didn’t arrive in the Americas until the 16th century when the Spanish brought them. Lily believes him. Josh asks who cares. Scott explains they can get milk from cows. Then Levi rolls up in the Jeep; they need Sam. Riley is going to come with as her father has run out of his PTSD meds. She’s also reconsidering med school and isn’t taking no for an answer. Josh wants to know what’s going on; Levi says he should come back with them.
Paara tells the others that Aldridge is unconscious and needs a doctor. The others haven’t found Isaiah and Silas. Paara explains that Silas and Isaiah joined their village; Silas said they fell through another sinkhole and Isaiah’s parents didn’t survive. Then Levi returns.
Josh doesn’t believe that Isaiah is Gavin. Ty tells them Aldridge will be okay and wants to see them. She explains how Isaiah went through a sinkhole to 1988. It’s open on top of a mountain, Topanga, now. They have to get Isaiah through it. Josh doesn’t trust her. Aldridge explains about Gavin and Izzy. But if Isaiah doesn’t make it to 1988, Josh and Izzy won’t be born. When the light closes, they will die.
Ella is not believing them in the present. She also doesn’t recognise Aldridge. Gavin explains how they were found together. She also doesn’t remember anything from before she was adopted. But she’s drawing and making things from the past. Gavin explains about his memories. Ella has been having them too. They started when the La Brea sinkhole opened. She doesn’t want to help.
Josh is now worrying he may die. They decide to split up to find Silas.
Silas is with Isaiah in a cave. He doesn’t want to talk about why he hurt Aldridge claiming she’s crazy and thinks Isaiah is someone else.
At the camp, Lily talks to Veronica. Veronica says she can’t stay because everyone knows what she did. Lily thinks the others will accept her. Veronica isn’t so sure. Then Scott tries to get people to help him find the cow. No-one wants to help.
Levi, Eve and Josh see smoke from Silas cave, but it’s empty. Only recently, however. Levi and Eve head off on foot and Josh takes the jeep to mee them. He sees Isaiah, though, and a sabretooth, and wrecks the jeep ramming it into the tiger.
Silas really doesn’t want to give Isaiah up but if he doesn’t, Izzy and Josh are dead.
