First Wave – Raven Nation

“Raven Nation” is episode two of season three of First Wave.

A Gua fastened to a chair is being interrogated by the woman who saved Cade’s life in the church in the previous episode, “Mabus”. She wants a location but the man says Gua don’t break as easily as humans. The woman decides to use salt; not a little but a large amount. The Gua eventually gives up the location and the woman orders that surveillance be begun on it. The Gua accuses her of breaking her own laws; even prisoners of war have rights. She is not impressed.

A man exits a building with boxes bearing a skull and crossbones symbol. Cade is not posting his journals on the web as he faked his own death to get both Gua and humans off his back. Eddie is standing in for him. Eddie has intercepted an email to Raven Nation about the sale of illegal chemicals. Eddie confronts the man, claiming to be a fed, and asks him about Raven Nation and his chemical purchase. However, the man ends up headbutting Eddie then driving off.

Cain is being questioned by Mabus who is inside some sort of chamber. He apologises. Mabus says Subject 117 is clever; they weren’t expecting Cade to fake his own death and to do so using the husk meant for Mabus. Looks like the Gua were not fooled for long at all. Mabus isn’t impressed and a bloody hand hits the glass of his chamber. Cain says Mabus’s consciousness is too powerful for traditional husks. Mabus is not happy; this could end with their defeat. He asks if Nostradamus is the only prophet in the universe. Cain says no; Mabus is the Seventh Harbinger and like all Harbingers has the gift of foresight. According to Mabus, the Fifth Harbinger prophesised that the union of two humans will lead to their defeat. One is Subject 117. The other is a female. Cain suggests the female Cade encountered, who they haven’t identified yet.

The man Eddie approached has driven out into the woods it looks like. He gets out and leaves the car. Cade was in the boot. The driver is met by someone who is displeased to see him, but still leads him through a hidden door into an underground complex. The second man is worried the driver could have been followed; the driver says his phone was tapped. What could he do? He’s told Jordan will not be pleased.

Cade enters the complex and makes his way to a room where the woman who saved his life, Jordan, is leading a vigil to the death of their comrade. Cade Foster. Cade gets grabbed and guns are pulled on him. Jordan asks who he is. Cade replies she knows who he is. But Cade Foster is dead and the body was verified as being his. Cade says it was a Gua clone, one designed not to dissolve. Jordan asks how she knows this Cade isn’t a clone. He has the necklace she gave him in the church. Cade tracked them through an email; he came to find out who they are. Raven Nation.

Cade explains how he got there and Jordan is embarrassed it was so easy. Cade says it wasn’t that easy; Eddie nearly got concussion. How did they know he was in the bunker? Security cameras. The place is a bomb bunker built by the government in 1941. Jordan bought it. They have a war room collecting data from operatives all over the world with bounties on the heads of suspected Gua. They’re designing weapons they think will be effective against an alien force. There are only a few hundred, but from all walks of life. Cade’s journals have worked.

Cade is introduced to a scientist, Max, who worked for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies. Cade’s journals help Max realise his bosses were not who they said. Max says lots of people believe in aliens, but comparatively few of them believe they are on Earth. They have to work on that. They’re working on all sorts of things, such as how to identify a Gua. The Gua have a biological shield that protects them from identification; they’re working to break it. Cade asks Jordan why they didn’t contact him, let him know they were there. Jordan wanted an army to support him and they weren’t ready. They are now.

Eddie had told the man with the chemicals that the encryption on his email was pathetic. Seems he was right; Cain has tracked it as well, and the man. Jordan explains to Cade how she got involved. Her methods against the Gua rather different to Cade’s, which does cause problems. Still, for the first time Cade seems to have major allies.
