DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Doomworld

“Doomworld” is episode sixteen of season two of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

In the previous episode, “Fellowship of the Spear”, the Legion of Doom managed to acquire the Spear of Destiny, and the vial of blood the Legends had found was destroyed. Partly thanks to Mick. The Legends thought that at least the Legion didn’t have an operating manual. Unfortunately, Malcolm Merlyn had picked one up. So, the Legion, with Snart and Mick, used the Spear.

The opening intro is from Eobard Thawne this time. He says that, together with Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn, he obtained the Spear of Destiny and have rewritten reality itself.

The episode opens in Star City, 2017, with Sara and Amaya chasing a masked woman. They manage to catch her and tell her that the mayor would like to have a word with her. The woman – Felicity Smoak – says he should have come himself rather than sending his bimbo brigade. The mayor is Damien Darhk. He congratulates Amaya and Sara, and tells Felicity she should have given up. She replies that she will never stop fighting. Damien says that she will. And orders her killed. Which is done. Darhk wants to add her mask to his collection: Ragman, Black Canary, Wild Dog, Vigilante, Green Arrow, The Flash and Spartan.

In Central City, Merlyn barges into S.T.A.R. Labs to speak to Thawne, who has been avoiding his calls. Thawne also has the undead speedster that was chasing him locked up. Thawne tells Malcolm that their partnership has ended. Malcolm got what he wanted. His wife and son are alive and his daughter, Thea, adores him. Ra’s al Ghul is trapped in Ohio and Malcolm can even clap again.

Malcolm would still like to change a few things. Thawne tells him that the Spear is safest in his own hands. Besides, he’s the only one who can use it. Thawne destroyed the ‘operator’s manual’ but speedster brains retain information very well. Then Jax comes to see Thawne. Jax now works for him. There’s been a slight setback in the lab, but Jax promises to fix it. After Jax has gone, Malcolm tells Thawne he should have wiped the Legends from existence. And what is Thawne working on anyway?

Mick and Snart are robbing a bank but, when the police arrive, they let them go. Apologising to Snart. Mick thinks it’s all kind of pointless and without the fun. Then Snart gets a message from Thawne, summoning them.

Rip is on the Waverider, somewhere. He’s making fondant bows. Gideon tells him his technique has improved in the past year. It’s a shame, according to Rip, that Gideon is the only one there. Gideon is sure the rest of the team would be just as impressed. She wants to know if Rip is going to resume his efforts to get a message out. He doesn’t see the point. With the Spear, the Legion are like gods.

Professor Stein is also working for Thawne, under Jax. Who, in this incarnation, is not a great person to work for. Jax wants Stein to get the reactor working. The lab’s cleaner is Ray.

Thawne is finishing a call with the U.S. President (by inference, it sounds like Donald Trump, different from the Earth-1 timeline) when Snart and Mick arrive. He wants them to keep an eye on Malcolm. At this point Nate bursts in (rather like he did on Oliver in “Out of Time”). He wants to speak to Thawne because the world isn’t right. Reality has been changed somehow, there are signs everywhere. Subtle inconsistencies, like scars. He believes Thawne could help fix it.

Possibly true – if Thawne had any interest in doing so. Instead he tells Snart to take Nate outside and kill him. Mick accompanies Snart. Nate asks why, because he isn’t a threat to anyone. Unless he’s right. If he isn’t a crazy conspiracy theorist no-one listens to, what is he. Dead, according to Snart, but Mick stops Snart from killing him. Mick isn’t happy; there may be no more Flash but they are still working for another speedster. Mick blasts Snart – saying he owed him that – and saves Nate’s life. Why? Because he’s an idiot. Mick explains what happened to Nate. Mick isn’t a part of the Legion; he just made a terrible mistake.

Next, they go to Ray. Who also thought there was something wrong with reality. He made something – he doesn’t know quite how – that is supposed to be an undo for memories. He was going to try it on his rat – Mick recognises it as the rat Ray gave him for Christmas in “Turncoat”. So, Mick decides to try the device on Nate – Ray helpfully points out it will work better if he aims for the head.

Snart is meeting Damien and Merlyn. What if Mick finds more of his teammates? Darhk is going to send Amaya and Sara after Mick – and Snart has put a GPS tracker on Mick. The device Ray built worked on Nate, so it’s used on Ray as well. The Sara and Amaya arrive. Who are going to try and kill the others before their memories can be restored.

Damien, Malcolm and Snart are all unhappy with Thawne (this leads to a funny moment between Nate and Damien regarding Thawne), which is a plus. Rip is trapped somewhere in the Waverider – where is rather odd when it’s revealed. Thawne is doing something with a reactor which is bad. Everything is going wrong, Mick has to become a hero and it’s building up to the season finale, “Aruba”.
