DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Aruba

“Aruba” is episode seventeen of season two of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and the season finale.

In the previous episode, “Doomworld”, the Legends failed. Amaya had the Spear of Destiny but Snart killed her with his cold gun. Then Thawne threw the Spear into the furnace he had created specially to destroy it. Leaving no chance of undoing the changes the Legion had done. So, Sara said they needed to use time travel in order to fix things back in World War I by stopping the Legion from ever getting the Spear. The only problem was they lacked a time machine. Rip was in the Waverider, which turns out to be on a desk in S.T.A.R. Labs, model-size, and he was attempting to restore power.

With power to the Waverider successfully restored, Gideon reports there has been no success contacting the rest of the team. She thinks they are probably facing challenges of their own. According to Rip, it falls to them to rescue the others then. Gideon says that they are in 2017. The shields covering the windows are opened and Rip thinks that they must be in a hanger large enough to hold the Waverider. The ship takes off and Rip asks if something is another ship. No; it’s a desk lamp. Rip orders Gideon to plot a course – to the nearest open window.

Jax and Ray are working on trying to get a 21st century radio to communicate with a 22nd century timeship. Sara asks if Thawne ever told Mick what he did with Rip. No; they weren’t close like that. Jax and Ray have figured something out. Sara asks if they can communicate with Rip then. That would be a yes. Rip is homing in on their location. Sara wants him to pick them up. Rip replies that there is a small problem with that – as the miniature Waverider flies in. Rip doesn’t believe that Thawne used the Spear to shrink the ship; he believes Ray’s Atom suit was used. So, it must be in the lab and it can be used to unshrink the ship. Sara tells Rip they have a plan to restore reality – but he isn’t going to like it.

Ray and Jax find Ray’s suit at S.T.A.R. Labs; Ray has really missed it. Then Damien Darhk arrives. He thought Thawne should have killed them but at least this way he gets to kill them himself. The Waverider appears and opens fire at Damien. Doing exactly nothing. Damien thinks it’s adorable. Until Mick hits him over the head. With the suit, the Waverider is restored and leaves.

In France, 1916, Ray asks the Legends if they are ready to destroy time itself by interfering with events they have already participated in. That would be yes. He warns them that there will be a reality wave propagating from 2017, and they are in a race against that. They need to avoid contact with their former selves at all costs, whilst helping them. However, when the Spear is destroyed, the Legends, this set, will cease to exist, as they are aberrations. Mick thinks they should go to Aruba instead.

Ray gets the vial of blood and says that it was easier the second time around. Thereby jinxing things. Thawne appears and takes the vial from Ray., He knew they would come back as they are stupid and predictable. He crushes the vial and says that his allies had been telling him to do something. And he removes Ray’s heart. This is not going well.

As far as Mick is concerned, they are aberrations living on borrowed time. Besides, Ray is still alive and well in 2016. With no blood, they need to steal the spear. From the other Legends. Mick has never stolen from himself before. Nate, Mick and Rip are going to sneak onboard the other Waverider whilst their alternates are absent. Mick still thinks Aruba is a better bet.

Snart returns to Damien Darhk when Thawne shows up with Malcolm Merlyn. Thawne tells the others that he is from the future. They know. Thawne gets a ‘dealing with idiots’ expression but, when you are from the future anyway, simply announcing that you are from the future doesn’t accomplish much. So, he explains properly, before leaving to get backup.

Mick, Rip and Nate get on the other Waverider. Mick thinks that was a piece of cake. Thereby jinxing it as the other Sara turns up. The conversation leaves Sara with a ‘that was weird’ expression on her face. Nate’s behaviour around Amaya is also odd – because this Nate saw her killed. He claims that he has discovered that the blood is in the Galapagos Islands. In 1984. Unfortunately, the three future Legends fail to get off the ship before the Legends from the past arrive.

Sara and Jax from the future try to stop their past selves getting onboard. This falls apart when Past Sara contacts the Past Legends. They think the Future Legends are the Legion in disguise. Except Rip thinks they are not. Which leads to the question why they would break the most important rule of time travel.

Their interactions cause a timequake, one which the Rips says is only the first. Professor Stein realises something must have gone terribly wrong the first time. Mick explains what with his usual tact. Past Sara wants to think about it and Future Sara accompanies her. Future Sara doesn’t regret not using the Spear. It’s a weapon, and they know what they do with weapons. The Waverider comes under attack by the Legion and Jax says they need to time jump. Rip tells them it’s a bad idea, and it is. A time storm causes the ship to crash.

So, they are stuck in the past, under attack by the Legion with no way to destroy the Spear. And Thawne is bringing reinforcements. At least when Ray makes a comment someone tells him not to jinx it. Too late though.

More problems arise, leading into season three and “Aruba-Con”.
