“Flushed” is episode four of season one of Dark Angel.
Max has borrowed the payoff money that everyone in her building pays to a corrupt cop for the right to stay in the building (in which they are squatting) for some drugs she needs. Her friends, thinking that they are helping and thinking that she is an addict, get rid of the drugs – believing that she will eventually thank them for helping Max break her addiction.
Only they aren’t true drugs Max is taking, but they are nutritional supplements she needs in order to stay alive, due to genetic problems in her makeup that cause seizures. Consequently, her life is now at risk, and Max gets caught and sent to prison for trying to steal some more. Without the drugs, she seems unable to function at her best.
This leaves her in prison with seizures that are going to keep getting worse until they finally kill her.
