“The Truth Hurts” is episode twenty of season four of Warehouse 13 and the season finale.
In the previous episode, “All the Time in the World”, Claudia was successfully de-bronzed but Paracelsus had reclaimed immortality from the Count of St Germain and his wife and son. Admittedly, this was what they wanted – to be mortal again – but Charlotte was killed shortly afterwards by Paracelsus. She didn’t have long to enjoy her newfound mortality.
What is happening to Mrs Frederic isn’t connected to the bronzing
of Claudia. Instead, the Warehouse is being taken over by another caretaker, one from the past – Paracelsus. He was the caretaker prior to being bronzed. Perhaps that is connected to why the Warehouse team of the time took his actions so badly. With his status as caretaker preceding Mrs Frederic’s, he is winning control. It was also revealed that Abigail is also the Keeper, not just a psychiatrist sent to help Artie.
In order to save Mrs Frederic, Artie says that Mr Kosan has stated that Paracelsus must be taken alive, and bronzed. If he is killed, the connection between him and Mrs Frederic could rupture her psyche. Artie had also kept Claudia intact for longer using DNA from a sample of Joshua’s blood, and Claudia asks him if he fainted when his blood was taken. When Artie starts to answer, Jinks realises that he’s lying.
When Paracelsus made the St Germains immortal, he killed a village to accomplish it. He’s haunting hospitals in San Francisco, with an artefact emitting golden light, although he doesn’t appear to be killing people with it. Strangely, the people affected aren’t being harvested for their life energy. They are being cured of terminal diseases. Such as cancer. Myka is finally making an appointment to see her oncologist regarding her cancer. So Pete wants to make sure that she actually keeps it. Pete also likes the idea of Myka being cured. Paracelsus wants to become immortal – that’s why he experimented with it in the first place, after all – but has his method changed? His lab was also destroyed, so he lacks a place to carry out his experiment. Which may be why he’s gone to San Francisco looking for ill people rather than staying in Turkey. It seems doubtful that Paracelsus’ actions in the hospitals will be as benign as it looked.
Mrs Frederic is running out of time, Claudia gets a bit of a shock and Paracelsus’ plans are coming to fruition. The story continues in season five and “Endless Terror”.
