“Emily Lake” is episode eleven of season three of Warehouse 13.
At the end of the previous episode, “Insatiable”, Jinks was approached by Marcus, who works for Walter Sykes, the man behind the attacks on the Warehouse and the Regents, because he wants the artefact that allowed him to walk back. Jinks decided to speak to Marcus – is this genuine? He certainly has reason to be annoyed with the Warehouse, given that he’s basically had his life destroyed after he drew a gun on Mrs Frederic in “The 40th Floor”.
This episode opens in the Warehouse with them trying to pinpoint a signal coming from an intruder inside the Warehouse. Could this be the mechanical insects from “Don’t Hate the Player”? Yes, they are, and they’re not just mechanical insects – they’re nanites. They are transmitting data outside the Warehouse so Artie has Pete zap them. This destroys the connection. The information was being sent to Tyler, the hacker who was recruited by Sukowski at the end of “Love Sick”. Apparently they have already got the information they need – but it’s encrypted. Majorly encrypted – it’s for Regent use only. Even Claudia is unsure that she can crack it.
Jane refuses to say what’s in the file, saying that the Regents (what’s left of them; quite a few have been murdered) have a plan in place, and Pete doesn’t back Myka up but agrees with his mother. Claudia and Myka do not appear to be totally happy but it looks like Pete simply decided that it was a waste of time arguing with his mother. He’s running his own investigation and points out that all of Sykes’ known minions are dead. Which is Marcus (who Pete had glimpsed in Atlanta), and Tyler. And Jinks. Myka, Pete and Claudia are planning to check things out anyway – against orders. Claudia has found a lead to Tyler and Cheyenne, so Pete and Myka are going whilst she is staying behind to cover. She doesn’t do this very well.
Jane and Kosan are keeping things secret from the other Regents, because of Sykes’ attacks on the Regents. Kosan suggests simply killing Sykes, but Jane says that they need to know his endgame so that the Warehouse isn’t vulnerable.
In Cheyenne, Pete and Myka are at a school and find the titular Emily Lake. Or, as they know her, H.G. Wells. Who they believe is was kept prisoner by the Regents and has managed to escape. Only HG doesn’t recognise them and hides under the desk when Pete rushes in with a gun drawn. HG truly believes she is Emily Lake. A schoolteacher. And she has a cat. Sykes is presumably after HG. Pete thinks that she’s faking it, but Myka realises that she’s actually got a new identity, a really, really new identity, including memories, given to her by the Regents. And that’s the information that the nanites broadcast. Unfortunately, Marcus is hard to kill and Jinks is helping him. Claudia doesn’t believe it. So, what does Sykes want with HG? And is Jinks really working for Sykes? Or is he playing a double game?
