Timeless – The Alamo

“The Alamo” is episode five of season one of Timeless.

This episode March 5th, 1836, with a soldier writing a letter asking for reinforcements. He is besieged by soldiers under Santa Anna, and the place is, of course, the Alamo, and the soldier is Colonel William B. Travis.

At the end of the previous episode, “Party at Castle Varlar”, Rufus was directly approached by Rittenhouse – and threatened – after he stated he wasn’t going to work as a spy any longer. It also sounds like Mason isn’t entirely happy to work with Rittenhouse either. Flynn has had the nuclear core taken in “Atomic City” installed in the mothership to use as a power source; it had been tracked in the present day partially by its power use. Now, that won’t be the case.

Wyatt is going to be replaced, because he hasn’t managed to kill Flynn yet. His replacement won’t get there in time, though, so he’s going on one last mission (or is he; perhaps that will change? Going back into the past changes something every time). With a bunch of grenades; if he gets a chance at Flynn, he will take it.

Flynn meets with General Santa Anna, with a bag full of gold. He is supposedly a messenger from Queen Isabella II, who wants to help the general crush the rebellion – permanently. Which would have a definite impact on the history of the United States. The force at the Alamo is utterly outnumbered, but its complete annihilation was a rallying cry that sparked the true rebellion. It’s hard to kill more people than actually died, so what is Flynn up to? Perhaps by stopping the massacre? That might make a difference. That’s not what Flynn’s got planned though.

Wyatt, Rufus and Lucy get into the fort quite easily, assuming that Flynn will have infiltrated it. Which he has – and he kills Colonel Travis. By itself, a history changing event, as Travis hasn’t written his letter. Santa Anna also arrives earlier than he was supposed to. So, it looks like the letter is the key point, as that was the real rallying cry when it was reprinted. The woman and children also won’t get out alive this time, but Santa Anna isn’t following Flynn’s plan either, and things may be getting out of hand.

Wyatt seems to be having combat flashbacks caused by being in the Alamo, reminding of something from his past. The three of them need to work out how to get those out who are supposed to survive, as well as the letter that hasn’t been written. All this while being in one of the most famous – and famously inescapable – massacres in history.
