Timeless – Last Ride of Bonnie & Clyde

“Last Ride of Bonnie & Clyde” is episode nine of season one of Timeless.

This episode opens on May 23rd 1934 with a car driving down the road with a man and a woman inside it with weapons in the back. They stop to see if a person by the side of the road has got a problem with their car when a group of armed men riddle the car with bullets. The man and woman are both killed, and the woman has a key on her bank around her neck.

Lucy is having dinner with her fiancée, Noah. He can see that there is something wrong with her, although he doesn’t know what it is. He says she came home one day as if she was a totally different person. Which she was, effectively. She planned on a date to get him know better – for her, a first date. The whole matter is causing confusion. Wyatt suggests that she lets him go, as they were never meant to be together.

Flynn has gone to Arkansas, May 22nd, 1934. Agent Christopher has a picture of the same key that was around the dead woman’s neck, got from the raid on Flynn’s warehouse in “Party at Castle Varlar”, and apparently the key is connected to Rittenhouse. Wyatt and Lucy suggest that they tell Christopher about Rittenhouse, but Rufus doesn’t like the idea. They go to a bank which the key is connected to, when the man and the woman from the car hold up the place. They are, of course, Bonnie & Clyde. Bonnie is wearing the key around her neck. Then armed men, the same cops who gunned down Bonnie & Clyde, turn up outside the bank. Flynn is with them.

Lucy and Wyatt walk out into a gunfight, and team up with Bonnie & Clyde. Flynn is using the cops to get the key, which is how they knew to turn up at the bank. Lucy and Wyatt offer Bonnie & Clyde a ride, because their car is shot up. Lucy claims that they were casing the same bank. Wyatt wants to just take the key, but Lucy wants to find out where they got it. Before they get gunned down by the cops.

Rufus is left behind and is questioned by the police as he was apparently seen with Lucy and Wyatt. Unfortunately for him, Flynn, who is posing as a bounty hunter, tells the cops that Rufus is working with them. Flynn gives the cops, who are led by Frank Hamer, Rufus’s real name – his driving license says he’s Wesley Snipes however. Flynn states that the license is a forgery and that there’s no way that Rufus is Wesley Snipes. True, of course, but he isn’t believed.

The key has been taken from someone surprising, but what’s it for? It bears a rather peculiar description. Agent Christopher’s suspicions had been raised regarding Connor Mason in “Stranded”, and the note that was with the key bearing the name Rittenhouse – the name which Lucy reported Flynn as having mentioned in “Pilot” which at that point meant nothing to Christopher – has, Mason believes, turned her curiosity towards Rittenhouse. Which might be bad for her.
