“Alienville” is episode thirteen of season one of Threshold and the season finale, as well as being the final episode of the series.
The team is tracking down those who have been infected from the contaminated tomatoes in “Outbreak”. One of the infectees has escaped, and two agents sent after him aren’t answering. They are in the small town of Allenville – notable for being the home of the infectee’s uncle, a Nobel laureate in physics and, if he hadn’t retired, someone who would have been doing Lucas’ job. Cavennaugh and Molly head to the town, and discover that the agents are dead and that the entire town has been infected. The altered theta waves they have cause the infectees in the town to think that Molly and Cavennaugh are also infectees.
Back at Threshold, the pregnant infectee from “Progeny” is about to give birth – after about two and a half months, which is more than a little faster than normal.
There are, unfortunately, many unanswered questions and an incomplete plot due to the series being cancelled, such as Captain Manning’s claim in “Outbreak” that the aliens were transforming humanity to keep them alive, as the radiation – presumably a gamma ray burst, something that’s hypothesised to have caused mass extinctions in the past – from two colliding neutron stars – a hypernova – was going to reach the Earth in a few years and wipe out humanity. An attempt was made to change the ending to account for the show’s cancellation and the unanswered questions and unfinished plot threads.
