“Graduation Day” is episode six of season three of The 4400.
Tom arrives at NTAC and Diana says they need to get started. She leads him into a room where Isabelle is being held. Diana says that Tom needs to do it so that they can get on with their day. She’s referring to using the hypodermic Tom got in the previous episode, “Gone: Part 2”, along with a message to kill Isabelle. Sarah had told Tom there was a great evil brought into the world by an opposing faction. Possibly Isabelle is the evil and Ross a member of the other faction. Tom is, of course, dreaming and he wakes up in a pile of paperwork. The hypodermic is in his safe.
Shawn is cutting himself, trying to find the bug. He heads out and bumps into Maia as she’s running. Shawn says he can heal her, but he’s actually hurting her until stopped.
Diana arrives at the centre and finds Maia with a doctor. The doctor says Maia is okay, mostly dehydrated. Maia asks why Shawn would hurt her.
Richard and Tom are in Shawn’s quarters, which he tore apart looking for a bug. Isabelle arrives wanting to know if Shawn is okay. Richard introduces Isabelle to Tom, who is finding the meeting awkward. Dr Clayton, from “Wake-Up Call”, comes out. He’s given Shawn a sedative; the persistent and powerful auditory hallucinations were contributing to his delusions. It’s consistent with the onset of disorganised schizophrenia. Only far too fast.
Richard tells Diana and Tom about the threat from Daniel Armand towards Shawn. He doesn’t think it’s a coincidence. Diana doesn’t want Shawn walking around, even if he is a victim too. Ross doesn’t want him disappearing. Diana says they have an insane 4400 with a lethal ability. He attacked Maia; if it isn’t handled, she will file assault charges and the decision will be taken out of their hands. Isabelle enters; she doesn’t want Shawn locked up. Richard agrees, though, to have Shawn put into a private hospital.
Alana is talking to a teenage 4400, Todd, about how she can use her powers to get him to adjust to his life. He thinks she should help herself. He says she has a sadness inside. Maybe rage. Because of what happened to her husband and son. Killed in a hit and run and the other driver was never caught. That’s his ability.
Tom and Diana aren’t finding any 4400 who Shawn has been in contact with who could have done this. Even assuming contact is needed. Tom says they know who did it; Daniel Armand. Diana says they don’t know for sure. It might just be a tragedy. There would be nothing they could do in this case. Tom won’t accept that.
Richard speaks to a 4400, Zachary Gidlund. A friend of Zachary’s from quarantine asked him to meet up for dinner. He thinks she was trying to recruit him to the Nova Group. Jean Nance. After Richard leaves, Zachary bumps into Isabelle.
Alana finds Todd again. He explains how he feels what someone else does when he talks to them. He also can see fragments. He saw the crash, a guy surrounded by empty beer bottles think about calling the cops and then leaving. He also has the name. Keane Driscoll.
Ross finds Isabelle packing things for Shawn. She’s going to take him from the hospital. He tries talking her out of doing it and reminding her about her purpose. To kill every 4400. Ross claims the 400 are the catastrophe. And he can’t allow her to do this. She needs him; she’s not ready to do this on her own. Isabelle disagrees. This is graduation day. She kills him. Then heads to the hospital and gets Shawn out.
NTAC are heading out to get Jane Nance. Isabelle gets there first. Isabelle is tracking the Nova Group down, following one member to the next and leaving a trail behind her. At the beginning, Tom really didn’t like the idea of killing Isabelle. But she’s now getting very scary. Alana, meanwhile, is heading to find the driver who killed her family.
