Superman and Lois – Haywire

“Haywire” is episode four of season one of Superman and Lois.

Saskatchewan, six years ago, and Morgan Edge is in a convoy of vehicles driving through what appears to be some sort of meteor shower. They stop at a crater and what’s inside it is definitely not a meteorite. He says that the resurrection begins.

In the present and Edge is watching Smallville play American football as Kyle talks to him. Kyle mentions Lana working at Edge’s bank and Edge invites her to join them for dinner. Chrissy and Lois are watching too; the town votes on Morgan Edge’s proposal tomorrow. Sam Lane joins them; Lois says he never came to any of her games. Sam looks out on the pitch and asks if that’s Clark. Jordan is called up by the coach and Clark reassures him he can do it. And he does. Sam asks Lois if there’s something she wants to tell him.

After they win the game, Jordan is being celebrated as Johnathan is on the side-lines and Clark hears Lois and Sam talking at home about Jordan’s possible powers. Clark arrives and says they know what they’re doing. Sam reminds him there’s an armoured nutjob that wants Superman dead and Clark is coaching his sons. Yes, because nutjobs want to kill him all the time. Sam says the military is terrified of Clark and changes in his routine are a concern. He hasn’t been seen above Metropolis and they plan to move Thaddeus Killgrave out of the city because it’s thought not to be safe now. Clark won’t go with the transfer but he’ll be there if something goes wrong.

Jordan is popular at the diner and Sarah and Jonathan are talking to Tag who was injured in the explosion in “Pilot”. Tag and another player nearly get into it. Edge is talking to Lana over dinner; he thinks she’s overqualified for her job and thinks he can find something better suited to her gifts.

Chrissy and Lois are looking over Lois’s article when Leslie Larr, revealed to have superpowers in the previous episode, “The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower”, shows up with an envelope. They’re aware of the piece Lois intends to publish and doing so would breach her previous contract. After Larr goes, Chrissy says she can’t risk publishing anything Lois writes.

Tag is at home, annoyed about his broken arm, when it starts vibrating.

Clark is playing ball with the boys at home; Jonathan is finding it a bit hard to be on the bench. Lois asks for a favour; she wants Clark to go to the assembly. Her article is shredded and she can’t say anything. She’s going to confront Edge at the mines.

Lana and Kyle are preparing the room for the meeting. Kyle thinks there’s no article from Lois because she had nothing. Not true. Kyle wants what’s best for this town and believes Edge is it. Lana is annoyed because Edge made her uncomfortable at dinner and Kyle didn’t even notice.

Lois confronts Edge and Larr about his goon nearly killing Sharon Powell and his minion threatening Lois’s career. If Edge sues, she’ll counter sue and Edge’s records will be opened up in discover, and that won’t end well for him and his brand. Why all this trouble over Smallville? Edge would ask her the same name. How come a world-renowned journalist moved here with her unemployed husband and sons. There must be something here important to her. Maybe Edge will find out what that is.

The coach picks on Tag for having a broken arm and Tag leaves the room. Johnathan follows. Sam is checking on the transport of Killgrave. Killgrave is in the back of a prison transport, talking to the guards and chewing gum. Which he spits out and explains it isn’t gum. It’s an explosive.

Tag is in a cubicle in the toilets and Johnathan heads to check on him. Tag’s arm is vibrating, then his cast shatters. Clark hears and goes to look and Jonathan tells him something is wrong just as Sam puts in a call for help. Clark tells Johnathan he has to go. He arrives to just find a message from Killgrave.

Jonathan is feeling a bit lost with regards to sport now, with Jordan’s success. Clark is having to juggle Superman and Clark more and Sam’s efforts to help are not helpful. Something is clearly happening to Tag and somehow Edge has got minions with superpowers.
