“The Garden” is episode two of season seven of The 100.
The episode opens after Octavia entered the Anomaly in the season six finale, “The Blood of Sanctum”. The Anomaly is below the surface of a lake and she swims up and to the shore; the planet is ringed. Octavia hears a noise and heads inland, finding Diyoza about to give birth in a cabin. Octavia thinks it’s too soon, but Diyoza has been there 3 months, even though she enterd moments before Octavia. After a ridiculously easy childbirth, given the conditions, Diyoza falls asleep.
In the previous episode, “From the Ashes”, Gabriel, Echo and Hope all entered the Anomaly. They arrive at the same time and Hope elcomes them to Skyring. She has her memory back. She runs inland to her mother’s cabin, which now looks more lived in. Inside, Hope is looking for something; Gabriel finds a creepy doll and comments on it. Hope says it’s not hers; the time differential means it’s been hundreds of years. As for Bellamy, once the others got here, they used the bridge – the Anomaly – to take him to Bardo.
‘They’ are the Disciples and Anders is their leader. If Hope tagged Octavia, he’d let Diyoza live. Hope has found what she’s looking for. When she stabbed Octavia, she was actually tagging her with a locator tag. Octavia understood. Gabriel assumes the bridge is the Anomaly. It is. And there’s a way to control it underneath them. A cave below the cabin, with a stone and writing. Hope has the code on the piece of paper. Only it’s washed away.
In the past, Diyoza finds Octavia with baby hope. Diyoza is far more content than Octavia; there’s food, shelter and no threats. Octavia wants to leave.
In the present, Hope says the Anomaly is too deep; the dive will kill you. Octavia tried for six years. Hope lived here for twenty years; Octavia for ten. Gabriel is trying to recover the code. According to Hope, each mind has a unique code. With no code, you need a tracker, and it needs to be in deep. Hence the stabbing. Hope made a deal to rescue her mother. She wants to save her and Aunty O.
Gabriel can’t recover the code. Echo is annoyed and touches the fireplace. Which is warm. Someone is still there. Said someone attacks. He gets away, but Echo noticed a countdown on his arm. And he called the creepy doll Hope and said he would be back for her. According to Hope, the countdown is how long he is going to be a prisoner there. Five more years
Skyring is the place where the Disciples send people to atone for their sins. And he won’t make it to the end and they need him to. Once the timer reaches zero, the Disciples will come. And they can take their suits and jump to Bardo. Echo does not want to wait five years. Octavia tried every day and failed. Hope is the one who named the planet.
Isolation is the prison and someone can serve a 20 year sentence in a weekend. Hope says that everyone on Bardo is a Disciple and a warrior. Those not devout enough or pulling their weight are sent through. If everything she’s heard about Gabriel and Echo is true, they can take the prisoner.
Nothing from Sanctum as the episode cuts between the past on Skyring, as Octavia tries to get back to Sanctum whilst Diyoza is happy to stay there, and the present as Hope, Echo and Gabriel try to work out how to leave.
