Superman and Lois – The Thing in the Mines

“The Thing in the Mines” is episode three of season two of Superman and Lois.

Superman is floating above the world. He then heads back down to the mine, but is hit by a painful vision and falls out of the sky.

Clark tells Lois and John Henry that the visions were completely debilitating when he got too close to the mine. John Henry suggests that maybe it’s Krpytonian, given it only affected Clark. Someone needs to go into the mine but the DoD is now in charge and Clark doesn’t want Anderson to know there’s something that will make him vulnerable. Lois will speak to her dad and John Henry volunteers to go inside.

Jordan speaks to Jonathan, who is looking and how well Timmy Ryan is doing. Jordan tells him obsessing isn’t healthy. Jonathan reminds him about Sarah and him obsessing over her and what she told him in the previous episode, “The Ties That Bind”. Natalie overhears and offers her opinion, if it’s wanted. It is. Sarah hated keeping the secret and maybe Jordan can sympathise because of his secret. Jordan says that’s completely different. He’s told it is; it’s magnitudes bigger. Jonathan asks if Jordan wants Sarah to be cool when told about Jordan’s powers, or to react the way he is.

Lana is at the diner practicing for the meeting with which she’s planning to start her mayoral campaign with Sophie and Kyle. She’s nervous.

Lois is watching a video done by Ally Allston when Sam calls. She explains she needs to get John Henry into the minds but without Anderson finding out, as he and Clark are not on the best terms. Outside, Jordan speaks to Clark; he wants to tell Sarah everything. Lois hears them arguing, as does John Henry, then Clark yells with super volume and his eyes glow. He’s shocked afterwards.

Lois returns from the school run; she thinks the kids were scared. Clark doesn’t even remember what happened. He can’t think straight.

Sarah finds Jordan at school and says she doesn’t know how to fix this. Jordan tells her it’s not about her and he doesn’t know where to go from here. Jonathan speaks to Candice about Timmy, who he thinks is taking steroids. Except it seems Timmy is taking something locally-made.

Lana has started talking in the diner to the people of Smallville. She may be trying too hard; it doesn’t go well.

Sam arrives; he has clearance for John Henry to go into the mines. He thinks if it is Krpytonian, they need to call Anderson. Clark says the new team would be sent and they aren’t ready. Sam says given how Clark is affected, he isn’t either. John Henry says to wait and see what he finds. Clark heads to go coach and Lois talks about Ally Allston. This mess could ruin the Gazette and Chrissy. They speak about Lucy and Sam says he isn’t getting between the sisters again. Lois gets annoyed with him and finally says she will do it without his help. As always.

At practice, Jonathan accuses Timmy of taking drugs, who says that Candice fixed him up with them. This leads into a fight and Clark breaks it up, getting slugged by Jonathan in the process. He takes Jonathan into the changing room. Where he loses his temper and throws a helmet into a vending machine. He tells Jonathan to get out and ends up using his heat vision into his hands, burning them.

Jonathan drives Clark home. Jordan makes a sarcastic remark and Clark nearly loses it. He says he can’t control the outbursts; it’s like he’s not even there. The anger isn’t his. It’s from the thing trapped in the mines. Sam thinks this is a national security situation. Lois thinks this is a family situation, as it could affect the boys. They need to wait until they hear back from John Henry. And Natalie hears that.

John Henry is shown in to the mines by Dr Faulkner. Who seems to have been responsible for the thing getting there in the first place. Natalie isn’t that happy with her dad. And the thing in the mines finally breaks out. Lana needs to think about her mayoral campaign. And Lois is trying to deal with the Ally Allston situation.
