Stargate SG-1 – 2010

“2010” is episode sixteen of season four of Stargate SG-1.

This episode is set in 2010, ten years in the future (back then, of course, 2010 was the future; the future never seems to turn out the way it’s expected to). Contact had been established with an alien race, the Aschen, who shared their technology. Earth is much more advanced and the stargate is in common usage. The President of the United States is former Senator Robert Kinsey, not exactly a wonderful notion given his past behaviour (he did, after all, nearly cause the destruction of the planet at the hands of Apophis back in “Politics”, indirectly at least, through his short-sightedness). O’Neill is less than impressed (as usual). Everything seems to be too good to be true.

And of course, it is. Carter comes across something wrong. Is it an invasion, or something different?

There’s a reference to the episode “1969” – that episode being sort of an inverse to this, being set in the past, not in the future.
