“Profit and Loss” is episode eighteen of season two of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
A Cardassian ship asks for help from the station, as they have been hit by an asteroid storm. On board are a female professor, and two students. Chief O’Brien quickly discovers that the ship wasn’t hit by asteroids, but by Cardassian weapons fire.
The two students are considered to be wanted terrorists back on Cardassia, as they are opposed to the military that is running things, and the Cardassians want them back, and send a ship after them
The female Cardassian professor, Natima Lang, is actually an old love of Quark’s, and one he definitely still cares about – although she says that she hates him, after he betrayed her trust. Quark is desperate to get her back.
Garak, as the only Cardassian left on DS9, also gets involved. Including having a conversation about Quark that is supposedly about fashion, but is rather about the current political situation.
