“Instinct” is episode eleven of season one of Sanctuary.
This episode opens with a woman and a cameraman approaching some warehouses as some police arrive on the scene. The woman is a local weather girl, and she’s looking for a big break. She’s been listening to the police scanner, and has been following up reports of a wild animal that has killed people.
They manage to get around the police cordon, and inside one of the warehouses. In there, they also find several dead bodies. The weather girl wants to get her story; her cameraman is more panicked and wants to get out of there. Then a giant, insect-like creature attacks them.
They are saved from death by the Sanctuary team. Dr. Magnus, Will, Ashley and Henry are on the scene and are trying to catch the creature alive. Magnus wants the weather girl and her cameraman to leave, but she refuses. She says that she wants to film what’s happening, but promises to turn over all the footage to Magnus at the end of it. Of course, she’s lying, and has no intention of turning over the footage.
The Sanctuary team’s plan isn’t going well. The Abnormal is much more intelligent than they thought, and it seems to have its own plan. They were following up a tip that someone was smuggling Abnormals, but their first attempt to capture it fails utterly. Killing it is an option, but the creature is in no way cooperating. If they want to capture it, they’re going to have to do more investigating.
With there being a cameraman on the scene, most of the episode is ‘found footage.’
