“The Love” is episode eleven of season two of Special Unit 2.
At a court, a young man is saying hacking the university computer was wrong. The judge says he has genuine remorse, no record of previous transgressions, 19, and errors like that are understandable. 18 months. Don’t want to go to jail? Don’t break the law.
Outside, a man is arguing with a meter maid when someone crashes into another car. The woman who was hit is having a go at the driver when she asks for a witness. The witness starts whining then, when he sees someone on a motorbike approaching, hides in the car. The biker is a link who breaks the window but the car is empty. The witness is hiding under the car and is exuding a pink mist. Anyone the mist touches starts making out with someone else, even if both were arguing. In court, the judge lets off a much worse criminal.
Jonathan is talking about Cupid, the god of love. He shows a real Amorphian, what Cupid is based on. Tiny wings. Though something else is apparently bigger. Captain Page explains that a high ranking and very strict federal judge is handing out free passes to hardened criminals. It releases a pheromone when scared. The reason behind many unexplainable pairings. The break-ups were because the Amorphian reversed the process with another pheromone. It’s the only way.
Captain Page says that a criminal, Miguel Terrera, is due to be sentenced today at 5PM. The Justice Department wants the judge better before Terrera is sentenced. The Amorphian is believed to be in Denver. Carl will accompany Nick and Kate.
Before they go, a lab tech who Jonathan has a crush on fixes Kate and Nick up with an antihistamine that prevents the pheromone from working. Use every six hours. Nick and Kate try and fix Jonathan up with a lunch date with the young woman. He fails.
In Denver, Nick doesn’t like the rental car they got. Nor, when woken, does Carl. They head to a garage to find Carl’s contact, Richie. Hiding inside a car; the source of problems that disappear when a mechanic looks for them. Richie says the Amorphian is Ross Bowman. Moved to town a few days ago. He’s on the run as he disrespected a Zaybar. A dangerous, bounty-hunting link. Made his woman a little too friendly with others. The Zaybar wants to make Bowman fix that, then to kill him. Bowman is here to see a doctor.
The doctor is Bowman’s psychiatrist. Former psychiatrist, who moved to Denver just to get away from Bowman. Nick and Kate arrive as Bowman is in the bathroom. Dr Marcus doesn’t need to see a warrant.
The judge has released another criminal when Captain Page arrives and speaks to Terrera’s prosecutor. He says he can help, then gets a call from Nick. They’re on their way.
The Zaybar arrives at Dr Marcus’s office. He throws Marcus out the window, then gets Bowman’s scent on eyedrops that were left behind.
Bowman is now whining in the car about his eyedrops. Then whines about other things. Then Carl gets into an argument with Nick, Nick stops the car and Bowman tries, and fails, to run away. Bowman is constantly complaining about problems. Unfortunately, some of them are real, and the trip back to Chicago takes longer than planned. Which means that something is almost certainly going to result in Kate, Nick or both being without the protective antihistamine. Especially as the Zaybar is still following.
