“Deadly Desire” is episode twenty of season one of Mutant X.
A woman is being chased down some stairs by two GS agents. Four more appear at the bottom and corner her. Their leader says they only want to talk. Shalimar drops in at this point and the woman takes off, pursued by two agents, as Shalimar takes on the other four. The woman is cornered by the other two, even though, according to the leader, it’s two against one and her back is against the wall. One agent comes forward, the woman grabs him and a scorpion’s tail comes out of her wrist and stings him. She approaches the other and something is emitted from her neck. The man appears infatuated by her and they leave together. Jesse phases in to help Shalimar; he took a wrong turn. He can phase through walls, not see through them. They take out the agents and find the dead agent and the woman missing.
Emma is talking to Adam at Sanctuary. The assume Eckhart has the New Mutant. Looking at the GSA communiques from the last 12 hours shows nothing about a New Mutant being brought in. Emma notices something and asks Adam what ‘anomite’ is. Eckhart is arranging to acquire a supply of anomite that has been stolen. Adam doesn’t look happy. He explains it’s a virus that will render the most sophisticated cybersecurity ineffective. Eckhart will be able to compromise and safeguard they come up with.
Shalimar and Brennan are playing pool and both are cheating a bit. Then Brennan spots someone and heads over to talk to him. The person he saw is Tony, Brennan’s associate who shopped him to Genomex in the first episode, “The Shock of the New”. Tony explains he’s a changed man, because he’s in love. He’s actually working for the woman and they are raking it in. They are going to get a $5 million payday, if Brennan wants in.
Eckhart is talking to an agent, Halloran. He asks what happened to Ames – the agent who ran off with the New Mutant – and to the dead agent; apparently cardiac arrest. Eckhart thinks they should look into the fitness program. The other four were distracted by Mutant X. There’s good news; the deal with Dr. Tork is set for that afternoon.
Emma calls Adam, as the message giving the time of the meet is five minutes from now. Shalimar and Brennan are contacted. Tork is waiting when Halloran and two other agents arrive with his money for the virus. The New Mutant is watching, along with Ames and Tony. Before they move, Shalimar and Brennan arrive. It seems the New Mutant likes the look of Brennan. Tony starts shooting, Shalimar is hit and Tony grabs the case. Tork is killed in the crossfire.
Emma fixes Shalimar up and Brennan talks to Jesse about what happened. Tork was the director of the anomite project and wasn’t getting the recognition he felt he deserved. With him dead and the research lost, the anomite prototype is priceless. Brennan says he knows exactly what its price is, and heads to see Tony.
Eckhart is also unhappy, his default state, and says that Mutant X don’t carry guns. So, how was Tork killed? Halloran explains that Ames shot him. Eckhart wants the anomite and Ames. Or else.
Brennan finds Tony and, whilst trying to get him to talk, puts a tracker on him. Then follows Tony. The woman is there and she introduces herself as Lorna Templeton. Tony tries warning Lorna away from Brennan, but she’s acting rather flirty. All Brennan wants is the case and Lorna seemingly hands it to him, before using her power on him. Which means Brennan is now infatuated with Lorna too. Tony is not happy.
Brennan is now compromised, thanks to Lorna’s hold on him. It seems she was gene spliced with a scorpion. And some female scorpions kill their mates once finished with them. The others need to get Brennan back, alive and uninfatuated, and stop Eckhart from getting his hands on the anomite.
