Marvel’s Inhumans – Something Inhuman This Way Comes…

“Something Inhuman This Way Comes…” is episode five of season one of Marvel’s Inhumans.

The episode opens with Karnak and Jen in her tent. Karnak is trying to work out what he is feeling; he’s struggling. It might be love. Outside the ten, Reno is loading a revolver and, once it’s full, pointing it at the tent. In the previous episode, “Make Way for… Medusa”, Reno had killed Ted. Now he’s planning on killing them. When Karnak and Jen exit, Reno shoots at Karnak. Who deflects the bullet with his hand. Unfortunately into Jen; it seems his power is still a bit erratic. The two of them run and fall into Ted’s open grave. Really big open grave, easily big enough for three. Reno gets a phone call before he can find them though and leaves.

Louise and Medusa had driven up just as Black Bolt and Sammy were trying to leave Declan’s facility only to be stopped by Auran and the others. Mordis got knocked to the ground and his mask came loose, causing his flame power to detonate a tank of something pretty explosive. Now Louise is driving and Black Bolt and Medusa are cuddling in the back. He wants to know what happened to Medusa’s hair. There is a thumping from the boot, where Locus was stuffed, and Louise pulls over.

Locus did not enjoy it there but uses her power to find Karnak. She is told to find him and, when the question of the boot comes up, Locus tells Louise that it’s no different to how the royal family normally treats them. Louise wants to know if that’s true; Medusa replies that Locus was trying to kill them. Louise also mentions that her company is planning a manned mission to the Moon. Then Locus’s communicator goes. Medusa answers and tells Maximus not to hurt her sister. Maximus is about to say that Crystal escaped in “Divide and Conquer” but stops himself. Maximus says that he won’t hurt Crystal and doesn’t want to hurt any of them. His actions put a lie to that. Medusa passes on a message from Black Bolt; he plans to have a few words with Maximus when he gets back home. Medusa destroys the communicator even though Louise really wanted to take a look at it.

Dave’s veterinary friend Audrey is saying that Lockjaw’s swelling is down. Crystal wants Lockjaw to find her family; Audrey tells her that Lockjaw isn’t ready to be running around. That’s okay, Lockjaw will just transport them. He can transport to any location and take people; Karnak calls it folding space. Audrey does not believe this statement – not that surprising really. Although the giant dog is a little odd. She also doesn’t believe that Crystal is from the Moon. Dave, perhaps because he has seen Crystal’s powers, is more open-minded, and when Crystal tells him to touch Lockjaw, does. When the three teleport away Audrey is more inclined to believe. Although it would have been embarrassing if Lockjaw couldn’t do it because of his injury.

Declan is doing an autopsy on one of the two Inhumans killed in the explosion. This Inhuman’s power is something very corrosive. Declan’s assistant asks if the other Inhuman will; have a power as well. Yes, she does. It’s Auran. Her power seems to be not staying dead.

Gorgon is looking for Karnak and remembers speaking to Karnak on the Moon, showing Karnak something he found. An American flag and a baseball. Gorgon thinks the flag will look great in his room. Karnak tells him to put them back. A satellite will pass overhead. The humans will wonder what happened to the flag. Back on Earth, Gorgon has found the blood where Karnak fell in “Those Who Would Destroy Us”.

Reno is packing the drugs when his buyers turn up. Their leader asks Reno what happened to his partners. Reno explains that Ted had an accident and Jen and this man she was with left when they saw the body. Reno wants help finding them. The buyer asks what Reno did with Ted’s body. So Reno shows them the open grave – and the buyer shoots him in the head and Reno falls into the grave. The man doesn’t trust people who kill their partners. He spots Jen’s blood trail and wants her and Karnak finding and dealing with.

On the Moon, Maximus has summoned Tibor. Auran has failed and Maximus wants Tibor to figure out which Inhumans to send after Black Bolt and the others. Tibor asks if that isn’t forced conscription; Maximus replies that if Black Bolt returns, they will lose their newfound freedom. Tibor doesn’t believe this is the freedom they are looking for. Maximus tells him that’s their problem; freedom is not granted, it is earned. Tibor tells him that it still isn’t what the others are expecting.

Jen is hurting but Karnak manages to block the pain receptors in her side. He feels he should have seen this before it happened, because he’s usually good at predicting outcomes. They also need to take the bullet out. Jen is willing to wait for a hospital. Karnak tells he that the bullet moving around inside will cause internal damage and she will die. This is a good argument for removing it. Karnak has an idea and asks Jen if she trusts him. She does. Karnak replies that makes one of them then. He does manage to successfully push it out the front. Jen wants to call the police but Karnak says she can’t. Plus Reno is hunting them. Well, not him any longer. So Karnak wants to go back to camp.

Declan is analysing the DNA and tells his assistant that both sets of DNA are similar to Black Bull’s. His assistant wants to know what happens if those with powers stop fighting each other and turn against them. Declan says that is why they have to help and understand them. There is a crash and they go to look; Auran’s arm is moving. Declan says it’s just a post-mortem spasm. Which is followed by post-mortem sitting up and post-mortem rapid healing. Auran grabs Declan by the throat and interrogates him about Black Bolt. Declan’s assistant tries to attack her. It goes badly for him.

Karnak and Jen are running around the jungle avoiding, not known to them, drug dealers not Reno. Karnak is experiencing doubt, something he is not used to. Crystal, Dave and Lockjaw are searching the island for her family – even if you can instantly travel from place to place it doesn’t help if you don’t know where you are going. Everyone else is also looking for Karnak, Gorgon by himself. There’s also a discussion of law in Attilan; Locus makes it clear that it isn’t fair. She also believes Maximus cares for others. He likely doesn’t. Maximus, once Auran contacts him again, wants his identity kept secret from Declan. Mordis and Flora have Sammy captive and are looking for Black Bolt. Mordis is definitely the most interesting Inhuman so far.
