Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – The Honeymoon

“The Honeymoon” is episode seventeen of season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the previous episode, “Inside Voices”, Coulson and General Talbot managed to escape from Hale’s control – with some help from Creel. Coulson had used the device that HYDRA used to communicate with the Confederacy – it seems it physical transports the user; it’s not just a communications device – to the surface. A cold bit of the surface, with snow around.

Daisy and May had gone to find Robin, to see if she could help them find Coulson. Robin hadn’t been drawing, or talking, for a few weeks – she’d had visions of her death in “The Last Day”. She did draw a picture of where Coulson and Talbot ended up though, and Daisy matched it to a real location.

Simmons had done a very dangerous stunt – believing, as Yo-Yo does, that because she lived to get to the Lighthouse of the future, she couldn’t die – to get Fitz out. So she, Yo-Yo and Fitz are free, and Mack is locked up. Mack may get a bit annoyed by this. The others are heading to three different locations for a weapon that they believe is powered by gravitonium – the particle infusion chamber. Although Hale has probably already recovered at least some of it, and perhaps found it all. Even if they don’t know how to assemble it yet.

The first location is in Herefordshire; Malick had said that this was a crucial R&D facility for HYDRA. They are going to parachute in, and Simmons says to Fitz she had always hoped to return to England for their honeymoon.

Coulson and Talbot are in the cold, and Coulson says they have to keep moving, as they may have been followed. He apologises for talking so long to find Talbot. Coulson says that he wishes they could have found Talbot sooner, but that they were in the future. Talbot asks what sort of fifth dimension freakshow they are in; Coulson says that’s a pretty accurate description of their job. In the facility, Ruby finds the machine and activates it as well.

Daisy, May and Deke are in the right area, but they aren’t finding Coulson and Talbot. Deke says that they don’t even know if they’re there at the right time. So Daisy says that they should land the Zephyr. This works, and they find Coulson and Talbot as Ruby is there. Ruby really wants to beat Quake. They get away, but Deke gets shot in the process. Quite badly.

In the Lighthouse, Piper frees Mack from his cell. The Zephyr arrives and Deke needs urgent medical help. However, Simmons isn’t there. Piper has had some training as a field medic, and Mack is willing to operate as her hands. Not the best solution.

Ruby really wants to undergo the treatment in the (not yet built) chamber. Hale wants to do more tests first anyway. She’s right to be concerned; the gravitonium is intelligent. In “The Asset”, the gravitonium absorbed Dr. Franklin Hall. And in the post-logo scene of the previous episode, Raina had brought the gravitonium to Ian Quinn four years earlier – and it had absorbed him too. Raina had done so at the gravitonium’s wish. Using the gravitonium might be a bad idea.
