Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – The Last Day

“The Last Day” is episode eight of season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the previous episode, “Together or Not At All”, nearly everyone met up again. Flint, the young Inhuman, had decided to stay behind on the Lighthouse to help against the Kree, and Mack and Yo-yo had decided to stay to help him. Fitz told them where he had hid a weapons cache in “Rewind” – unfortunately on one of the more dangerous floors, Level 3, the one infested with blood-sucking aliens. Everyone else had headed for the surface, in a trawler that no-one actually knows how to fly. May is already there, along with Enoch. Both were found and taken into a safe location by some people – one of whom is Robin, the Inhuman girl who could predict the future who is now quite a bit older. They are also in the Zephyr.

Sinara had killed the person sent after Coulson and the others by Faulnak, Kasius’ brother, and then Kasius killed Faulnak himself. Sinara’s relationship with Kasius seems unusual; she started helping him some time back, and seems to have firmly fixed her star to his. despite clearly being a skilled warrior, something the Kree value, Sinara seems to see something else in Kasius.

This episode opens on Zephyr One, back in 2018, with a young Robin and everyone else. Something is spreading too fast, and Zephyr One is heading in to crash. These events happened after everyone was sent into the future. Robin is trying to remember what happened; she apparently has problems separating out past, present and future. And, by the looks of things, possibly timelines. The people who rescued May are heading out to rescue Coulson and the others – including Deke – from the crashed trawler. Before it actually crashes – Robin told them a decade ago about the trawler crash, and that everyone would survive.

Kasius sends Sinara down to the surface after the trawler whilst he himself will crack down on the humans. Which probably boils down to killing a lot of people. Mack, Yo-yo and Flint are heading for the weapons cache that Fitz hid – including Mack’s beloved shotgun-axe – when the lights go off. The other humans are not happy and are blaming Flint for what happened.

Robin appears to be the key, but she is adrift in time. She had Enoch take Coulson and the others from the diner, because that was the last time they were all seen together. Robin also says that this is the day it all ends. Which is not remotely worrying.

Daisy has no powers thanks to the inhibitor that Kasius had implanted in her in “A Life Earned”. Deke is finding matters all rather confusing; so much he believed to be true isn’t. Deke also knew Robin on the Lighthouse, but simply as a crazy old lady. Not so crazy now.

There are more flashbacks to the past and the early days of the Lighthouse as everyone struggles to survive an earthquake that shattered the planet. Robin is trying to tell people things that are important to save the world, but she isn’t so much telling the wrong people as telling the right people at the wrong time.
