Krypton – Will to Power

“Will to Power” is episode three of season two of Krypton.

In the previous episode, “Ghost in the Fire”, it was revealed that Brainiac is now in Seg. This episode opens with Seg and Adam running to put distance between them and Lobo before the latter regenerates. Seg is now definitely channelling Brainiac. Adam wants him to stop. He understands the concept of running away – he uses it a lot – but it works best when you know where you’re going. Adam can also understand Seg not wanting to take Brainiac back to Krypton, but also Adam doesn’t want to kill Seg.

The Seg zones out. Inside his head he confronts Brainiac. Brainiac is impressed by Seg’s will. Seg understands that Brainiac was weakened by the Phantom Zone and needs a new host to cultivate bio-organic components. Brainiac is trying to seduce Seg to his will, about how they can achieve anything as one. Then Seg realises something and agrees, returning to the here and now.

Seg is now rather less Brainiac than before. He explains to Seg what Brainiac is doing, and that Brainiac would gain control eventually. But that won’t happen, because Seg has access to Brainiac’s mind and memories. He knows how to beat Brainiac.

This involves heading to part of the planetary mainframe, the natal chamber where Brainiac was originally birthed. Once Seg is connected, and the natal chamber detects Brainiac, Brainiac will eb removed from Seg. Once separated, they can use the zeta beam to return to Krypton, leaving Brainiac for Lobo. Adam likes the plan. Except the bad buts. Like connecting a supervillain to a supercomputer. There’s also the fact that Brainiac is going to continue working against Seg from inside, and Lobo isn’t exactly the sort patient enough to wait for this process to be complete.

The resistance on Wegthor, using the information Nyssa gave them, has successfully looted a Sagitari supply convoy. Jax wants to question the Sagitari they’ve captured. Val tells her to go easy on them. Some are conscripts and might well want to join the resistance. Jax still seems a bit suspicious of the convenience of Nyssa’s timing.

Questioning the Sagitari does lead to information. Used, the resistance could take control of the base of the space elevator, meaning that Zod will no longer be able to send supplies and reinforcements. Val speaks to Nyssa afterwards, and agrees to give her some more freedom. The question is what she will do with it. Nyssa admitted that she was sent by Zod, but is she still working on his behalf, however reluctantly that is?

Lyta is talking to Zod about the Wegthor fight, and how the loss of life could be reduced. Zod recalls seeing Krypton, and all Kryptonians, vanish from the cosmos, and how it could have been prevented but no-one was willing to do what needed to be done. Lyta, the Lyta of the future, taught him to take calculated risks. Lyta says she needs to be that Lyta now. Send her to Wegthor. She could broker a peace; save Kryptonian lives on both sides.

Jayna and Dev are cleaning up after the Sagitari they killed. Jayna wants to know why they were after Dev. Dev doesn’t want to talk; he’s done with it all. Jayna says she needs help; she has a plan to save Lyta and kill Zod. Dev tells her that Lyta doesn’t need saving; she’s Zod’s Primus and his right hand. Jayna can’t believe that’s willingly. Dev tells Jayna she doesn’t know Lyta any more. Jayna still wants them to help each other. Dev agrees they can – by pretending they never saw each other.
