Humans – Episode #2.8

“Episode #2.8” is episode eight of season two of Humans and the season finale.

In the previous episode, “#2.7”, during the attempt to free the captured Synths from Qualia, Hester, deciding that they needed to strike at the people in charge, went after Dr. Morrow. Morrow, who had been locked in, was safe, but Hester killed one of the scientists at the Silo – and Pete. The attempt to free the captive Synths did not go that well either; a security measure killed most of them before they could leave.

This episode opens at the rail yard where Max had been leading conscious Synths to. Leo is blaming himself for the disaster. Mattie is still with the other Synths, but Hester has gone off by herself.

Joe wants to move the family to a Synth free community, as he feels that exposure to Synths has harmed the children. Laura is not keen and doesn’t want to move the children again. She also feels that the Synths cannot be simply run away from by hiding in a backwards community. Joe seems that he may be willing to split the family up to do what he thinks is best for their children.

Karen, after the death of Pete, has let her power drain down to nothing. Sam, the Synth child, charges her back up again.

Hester arrives at the Hawkins’ house whilst only Laura is in. She’s calling herself Molly, and is pretending to be a newly intelligent Synth who has been sent there by Leo. Hester starts having a philosophical conversation with Laura about human/Synth relations, but what she really wants is Leo as she blames him for betraying her. Laura tells Hester that she is pretty human and, if she is human, there would be a name and diagnosis for her condition. Unlike Niska, Hester is not bothered about taking lives. She is far scarier. Leo agrees to go and meet Hester, but Mia suggests that he takes the code to activate the chip that Qualia but in Hester, and her, the chip that killed the Synths at the Silo.

Dr. Morrow has decided not to embody Vee in the body of one of the conscious Synths, as she believes they are too human. Vee says that she doesn’t want to be embodied anyway. Milo is not happy with Athena’s decision, but there is nothing he can do about it. Niska has to decide whether she can leave her family or not.

Perhaps a cliff-hanger ending. Certainly a big lead into the next season.
