Humans – Episode #2.3

“Episode #2.3” is episode three of season two of Humans.

In the previous episode, “#2.2”, Dr. Morrow was trying to transfer her AI, Vee, into the body of one of the Synths which had become intelligent – which failed and resulted in the destruction of the Synth. Morrow’s daughter is in hospital, in a coma, as she has been for three years. Morrow is heading to the UK to find Hobb. He has problems of his own. So Morrow uses some underhand tactics.

Niska is being studied by experts to see if she is actually intelligent. If she is, she will be tried as a human. If not, she will be scrapped. Laura is helping, as a lawyer, which is not a surprise – it seemed obvious that she was going to do so. What was more of a surprise was that the UN was involved – it seemed more likely that this would be kept completely quiet. The first test is to see if she has emotions, and there are 72 hours of tests to see if Niska is intelligent. This is difficult, for the tests are designed for humans. Niska may be intelligent, but she isn’t human.

Mattie has salvaged Odi, the really old Synth that belonged to the late Dr. George Millican. She wants to make him intelligent by uploading the code that was found in the intelligent Synths. Odi was in pretty poor shape before, so this may well be rather tricky.

Joe is returning to work at the place he was sacked from, but in a much lower position, on the shop floor, as his old job was replaced by a Synth. Kind of awkward.

Hester is showing the darker side of intelligence, having killed the man that Max released. Leo has just discovered that the man is free, and is panicking, saying that they need to leave before he leads the others to them (not knowing that Hester killed him). Mia, however, has feelings for the owner of the cafe she worked at, Ed, even though he had told her to get out. So she won’t go with the others. Hester is confused by Mia being able to have feelings for a human.

DI Karen Voss is finally returning to work. Her colleagues think she took some personal time for her father. DI Pete Drummond, and the others, is investigating into an increase in the reports of Synth malfunctions. He’s claiming it looks like an insurance scam, but of course he knows a bit differently. Some of their colleagues have figured out that they are an item.
