“Entrada” is episode eight of season three of Fringe.
In the previous episode, “The Abducted”, Olivia managed to briefly return to her world and get a cleaning lady to phone Peter and tell him she’s trapped in the other universe. Peter is in bed with AltLiv and when she asks who it was, he lies. Then waits until she falls asleep and starts going through her things. He’s trying to crack her laptop’s password when she comes into the room. Peter claims he’s sending an email – their laptops are identical – and mentions the Greek phrase Olivia said in “A New Day in the Old Town”. Not only does AltLiv not know what it means, she doesn’t know who said it. AltLiv leaves the kitchen and Peter follows. Then sees her gun is no longer on the table. AltLiv realised it was a test and she failed. She wants him to inject himself with something, and he says he will come after once it wears off, if it doesn’t kill him. No, he won’t kill her; he wants answers. Unless he finds out she did something to Olivia. Then he’ll kill her. The injection paralyses him, for a few hours according to AltLiv. AltLiv is waiting for the man who runs the typewriter shop to open up when he arrives, so she can send a message saying her cover is blown and she needs extraction.
Walter and Broyles are with Peter as he’s being treated; Broyles is annoyed they spotted nothing. Walter says crossing over without Olivia is out of the question and Broyles wonders why Peter was at Olivia’s in the middle of the night. Not that he was really wondering. Then Peter notices his computer is gone. AltLiv thought Peter was working on his own and took the wrong one. AltLiv is currently waiting around at the typewriter shop and discovers this herself.
In the other universe, AltBrandon is talking to Walternate about bringing AltLiv back. Last time they swapped a bridge. Walternate says to use Olivia. They have all they need from her and she’s equivalent mass. AltBrandon asks if she’ll be sent back alive or dead. Because he’d like to remove some bits of Olivia for study. He’ll make up the mass. AltBroyles sees Walternate next. Walternate says a traitor must have helped Olivia. But finally they will be able to save their world from what the other universe did. Only one world will survive and their Olivia will be returning shortly. After the meeting. AltBroyles sees Olivia being dragged off screaming for help.
Peter and Astrid are in the lab with AltLiv’s laptop. It has videos of their Olivia’s debriefs in it. Walter enters feeling like a failure as he can’t find a way to cross over safely. Then Broyles arrives. The pieces of the device discovered in “6955 kHz” were being kept in a hangar and AltLiv accessed it and took one piece. Peter says Walternate couldn’t find all the pieces and sent AltLiv to their universe to get it. Walter is eating a pastry AltLiv used to bring him, saying AltLiv used her wiles on Peter and Walter’s stomach against him. Astrid notices the box. AltLiv supposedly picked up the pastries on the way to the Federal Building. But the bakery is in the Bronx.
AltLiv gets a message and tells the shop owner there’s one more thing he needs to do, giving him a box.
Walter, Broyles and Peter are now in the Bronx. Peter enters the typewriter shop and gets his suspicions aroused. Especially when he spots his laptop there. The owner shows all three into the back room saying he was promised new legs. Walter thinks the typewriter can be used to communicate between universes. And, as it’s an otherwise normal typewriter, Peter finds the message on the ribbon. Penn Station, Newark.
Unlike most episodes, this spends close to the same amount of time in each universe; the opening credits, which are different colours, depending on the universe, change colours multiple times. AltBroyles seems to be feeling conflicted about Olivia. She did more than save his son, after all. Olivia tries to convince him they aren’t at war. That it all started because of one man saving a boy. If Olivia doesn’t escape soon, she’s dead. And Peter and the others are trying to find AltLiv and the missing bit of the doomsday machine.
