Extant – The Greater Good

“The Greater Good” is episode thirteen of season two of Extant and the season and series finale.

JD is seeing an ultrasound of Kelsey’s baby. The baby’s eyes start to glow, the doctor, Molly, turns around and says they have to terminate. And JD comes to on the floor, where the Molly Humanichs shot him in the previous episode, “Double Vision”.

Molly and Terra are looking for Ares. They do not get a warm welcome. Ares says their problems are not his problems. Boy, is he wrong. Molly explains that a new virus has been released, one that kills humans and hybrids. It will; spread and there will be no end to the destruction. Ares asks why humans would do that. Because their enemies aren’t human.

Lucy, who with the Humanichs killed Secretary Stanton and every human at the GSC, is telling TAALR that the planes will be landing in 2 hours and 20 minutes. The humans at One Euclid have been replaced with Humanichs and the structure fortified. They’re prepared for any attack. TAALR says they need to embrace the final path and eliminate all lifeforms that threaten their extinction. Soon, they will be free of human enslavement. Lucy wants to know what she should do. Follow Molly X’s orders. She’s an upgrade. Lucy does not seem pleased by this.

Ethan and Charlie are at the lab, looking for Julie. Or, more precisely, her legs. She’s been held well below the lab, though. They manage to find Julie just before she runs out of air. Meanwhile, Molly has found JD. She patches him up, then injects him with her blood. Which isn’t human any longer.

When JD wakes, he sees Molly and grabs his gun. He says if she moves, he shoots. Molly asks why she would shoot him then save his life. It couldn’t be her; she only got there a few minutes ago. Molly says she can find out what happened but she has to get inside JD’s head. And does, seeing herself shooting him. The other three arrive back and Molly says they have to leave; it’s not safe.

Molly X, Lucy and other Humanichs arrive to be greeted by Richard. He tells them the others left 15 minutes ago. Then Lucy shoots him. However, Ethan had a feed from Richard’s camera and the others see Humanich Molly.

JD comes around and Molly explains to him about the Humanich Molly. His bullet wound has nearly healed and he realises why that’s the case. He’s not exactly happy. Then Charlie says they have a problem. The nanobots that will take out TAALR will also take out all the Humanichs. Which they’ve just realised includes Ethan.

Molly says she can’t, won’t make the decision. So, Ethan says let him make it. He knows he might die. Everyone else has made sacrifices for the greater good; why not him? Julie and Charlie are trying to find a way to protect Ethan. Ethan says if it doesn’t work, though, they both know what needs to happen. Julie and Charlie’s idea is to get Ethan’s neural net to reject the code before it does any damage.

They need to get into One Euclid past an army of Humanichs and disable TAALR and the Humanichs before they kill everyone. No pressure.

No cliff-hanger ending but there was a new thread at the end, but the series was cancelled.
