“The Caretaker” is episode six of season eight of the new Doctor Who.
The episode starts with Clara trying to juggle her relationship with Mr Pink with going on travels with the Doctor every day. Back in the old series, anyone who joined the Doctor would be lucky to end up back on the same planet they started off on, never mind being picked up and dropped off every day. Even getting the same century was a bit hit or miss.
Then the Doctor goes deep undercover. As John Smith (I wonder which Doctor was the first to use that alias? I know Jon Pertwee used it a lot), the caretaker. At Clara’s school. Which doesn’t make her happy.
There’s a dangerous alien killing machine called the Skovox Blitzer around, and the Doctor wants to dispose of it.
This means that the Doctor and Mr Pink finally meet – and the former’s opinion of soldiers has already been made clear. The Doctor does meet Clara’s boyfriend and, displaying the usual deftness regarding humans typical of this incarnation, picks the wrong person. And he decides that Danny is a PE teacher, not a maths teacher. Despite anything that might be said to the contrary.
