Continuum – Zero Hour

“Zero Hour” is episode four of season four of Continuum.

In the previous episode, “Power Hour”, Garza and Kiera had infiltrated the facility where the soldiers from the future are building something. They had decided to blow it up when Alec realised that it looked like it could be a time travel device, so Kiera stopped Garza. Which got violent. Kiera may have been trying to stop the device’s destruction so that she still has a way to travel back to her future, which isn’t anywhere Garza wants to go. Nothing about how blowing up an antimatter-powered device might have taken out the entire city as a reason not to blow it up though.

During their escape, they both got trapped and Alec asked Lucas to go in to help. In the process, he got shot and killed by Brad. Marcellus was killed as well, at Lucas’ hands, so they have a new leader. So, whose side is Brad actually on? Kiera later asked Present Kellog if he trusted Future Kellog, given that he, himself, is so untrustworthy. This appeared to have been something Kellog had thought of previously, but he hadn’t voiced it. Carlos also discovered that Kiera is keeping secrets from him again.

Julian destroyed his manifesto only for a copy to be found online, posted by Kagame’s mother at Curtis’ request. Just what game is Curtis up to? Alec alter said that he read the manifesto and that it was really good, and that Julian shouldn’t destroy it. If Alec wasn’t going to become a corporate tyrant, maybe Julian wouldn’t become a mass murderer. So Julian went to see Mrs. Kagame again.

This episode opens with Alec in his house remembering the time after Emily was rescued, when everyone was together and happy. Jason tries to help him but he also says that Alec wasn’t meant to be with Emily, and that she wasn’t his mother. Jason had tried to help Alec, but Alec isn’t happy, saying that he isn’t Jason’s father.

Kiera is pouring Lucas’ ashes into some water (how did they get his body back?). She says that Lucas was a decent person, and that he had changed. Alec asks whether it’s simply Kiera’s perception of Lucas that changed. Brad turns up and isn’t met with happy smiley faces. He said that he had no choice but to kill Lucas, thanks to Kiera’s actions, and if Lucas had been captured he would have been tortured until he revealed that Brad was a plant, which would have endangered Kiera. Not that killing Lucas seems to have got him much. Brad wants Kiera to return the piece of technology that Kiera stole in “Rush Hour”, which he says is a key. He doesn’t know what it’s a key for, nor does he know what the machine they are building does.

According to Carlos, a quantum computer has now been stolen. He also seems a little suspicious when Kiera says that she wants everything sorted out. The next place the soldiers rob is a blood bank. Which is a little odd; it’s suggested that they may need it if they get involved in a war. Brad was involved in the robbery, which contributes to Alec and Carlos’ distrust of him. Alec seems to figure out what the device is for, and it doesn’t look good, because it looks like a giant bomb. Kiera wants to tell Carlos about the warehouse, but Alec tells her not to. It looked like Carlos overheard Kiera’s conversation with Travis about what happened anyway.

Alec wants Jason to tell him who his mother is, so that Alec can meet her. Jason is not happy about the idea. Alec says that he wants to know whether him getting together with Jason’s mother is fate, or something he can choose. Alec is worried about every choice, now that he knows that every choice he make can affect the future. It’s hard ignoring that fact, when the consequences of your decisions come back from the future to haunt you.

Kellog confronts Vasquez wanting to know what’s really going on. She doesn’t respond well to this. Kellog insists that he be shown what they are building. Kellog does discover what Future Kellog wants – his body. Apparently, Future Kellog has a life threatening disease and Present Kellog is the perfect donor.

Curtis finally explains how the Traveller brought him back to life, how the Traveller is involved and what he seems to want. Alec gets a bit of a surprise as a result.
