“The Dying Minutes” is episode twelve of season three of Continuum. This episode is also called “2 Minute Warning”.
So, in the previous episode, “3 Minutes to Midnight”, Original Kiera and Brad got captured by Liber8. During this, Kiera revealed that she was from another timeline and that Garza was working for Older Sadler. Curtis and Kellog arrived and Brad revealed that he had been sent from a bit over a couple of decades in the future by an older Kellog to fix Liber8’s mess. It seems that Liber8 had managed to stop the formation of the Corporate Congress, which Sonya was happy about, even after it was discovered that the future Brad was from was far, far worse than Liber8 and Kiera’s. Brad revealed that he was the one who killed Kiera Two. Lucas was the first to decide that nothing they did was going to affect the future, followed by Garza and Travis. At which point Liber8 essentially disintegrated, as only Sonya seemed to still have the faith. The fact that the Corporate Congress not being formed had led to civil war and the mass destruction of cities and the deaths of countless millions didn’t seem that important to her as a side effect.
This episode doesn’t start in the future, or the present, but the past, three months ago. The body of the dead Curtis is taken from the morgue and taken to by the Freelancers to a place where a strange man places his hand on the body’s head, bringing Curtis back to life. He doesn’t seem that happy about it. Catherine explains to Curtis that he was brought back by the technology inside the man who touched him.
It then returns to the Freelancers in the present where Original Alec is in one of the cells. He’s struggling to breath; the air has been removed from the cell for lying. Catherine wants him to write down some coordinates.
Kiera speaks to Catherine and asks if the strange man is the original Freelancer, the one who travelled back a thousand years to start the whole cult. Kiera says that she handed over the wrong Alec, as Alec Two is bringing the future forward faster than it should. She wants Alec Two back and offers Brad as an exchange. Is it a genuine offer? Kiera seems to be suggesting to Brad that they spring Original Alec instead of a trade.
Julian meets Sonya in an alley. Sonya is injecting herself with something, but she says it’s not what Julian thinks, so presumably not drugs. She says that everything they have done has simply accelerated the process. Sonya wants Julian’s help in fixing things so they don’t get worse. Despite all the problems Liber8 has caused, she still believes. Julian gets Sonya some information and she gives it to Lucas. Even though he’s not really interested. Lucas suggests sabotaging Halo, which is being introduced decades earlier than it should. Travis wants Sonya to come with him north and leave everything behind. Sonya also decides to tell Julian the truth about who she is, and who Julian will be.
Alec Two wants the time device back from Dillon, as it was taken into evidence when Jason was arrested, and Kiera sees Dillon after he has taken it out of custody. The Freelancers also detect it, as Dillon has assembled it. Kiera wants Carlos to dismantle it again so the Freelancers can’t detect it. Carlos takes the opportunity to talk to Dillon about what he is after by being with Piron. Dillon’s intentions seem to be good, but he’s going down a dangerous path. The road to hell and all that.
Kellog is talking to Curtis again, and the latter says that Catherine isn’t the strange man’s – who is called the Traveller – disciple but his jailer. This may be true; although the man hasn’t been seen before, the place he was locked away has.
Lines start being drawn and new sides are emerging, as Chen reveals whose side he is really on.
Some fairly impressive fight scenes in this episode.
