Continuum – So Do Our Minutes Hasten

“So Do Our Minutes Hasten” is episode eight of season three of Continuum.

The previous episode, “Waning Minutes”, was, for once, mostly set in the future, with Kiera arresting a Liber8 terrorist who later travelled back to the past in “A Stitch in Time”. When their ship crashed, they were both captured by Gleaners, where Sonya was living and Kagame was being sheltered; the first time the latter two had met. Kiera also spoke to Kagame, although she never saw him. After she left, the entire place was destroyed by Sadtech forces who had discovered that Kagame was present. Oddly, it seemed that Kagame himself had tipped them off for some reason. To manipulate Sonya into joining him? Remembering the experience has made Kiera’s mind up about what she must do in the present/past as well. Finally, Curtis escaped from the Freelancers after pretending to hang himself in his cell. Something is clearly going on with him.

Opening in the future, Kiera and other Protectors are infiltrating a building looking for Liber8. They break up a citizens’ committee meeting, stating that it is an illegal political assembly; the person running it says that they are just trying to preserve a building for posterity and that there’s nothing political about it. One of the people there is Kiera’s mother. Kiera wants to smuggle her mother out, but the latter says that she is standing up for something and wants to be arrested.

In the present/past, Inspector Dillon and Julian are on the show Firing Point, the one that Liber8 attacked in “30 Minutes to Air”. Dillon is talking about Piron’s support of the police force; Julian is naturally against it. So Dillon asks him for proof about what he’s been saying, but Julian doesn’t have anything. At the moment. Kiera was watching the show in her new/future apartment when Curtis calls her and tells her to stay out of his way this time. A rather cryptic conversation really; what is he doing that she needs to stay out of his way for?

At Fermitas’ headquarters, one of the executives is speechifying in the boardroom to others when the vents start pumping out poison gas, perhaps the gas from “Wasted Minute”. The doors are secured, meaning they can’t escape, and a dozen people are killed. Kiera doesn’t think that the attack makes sense with Liber8’s current behaviour. She’s working it with Dillon, because Carlos is working a case related to Sonmanto, regarding someone who stole information from the company. Liber8 deny any involvement in the attacks, but Kiera suspects that Lucas might be involved and Betty is asked to work on him. Kiera asks Betty to also look for Chen – who everyone else thinks is dead. Which leads to the two having a conversation about why Betty started working for Liber8. Although Dillon is convinced that Liber8 is behind the attack, there is other evidence suggesting that this isn’t true. So who do it and why?

Carlos is hassling Julian regarding the Sonmanto thing he is looking into, and Julian says that he will introduce Carlos to his source, a whistleblower who has proof on lots of illegal activities that the company has done. She needs Carlos’ help.

Both Carlos and Kiera are starting to clash with Dillon over Liber8. Is it tunnel vision on Dillon’s part, or has he been turned by the corporations?

Alec Two is making a presentation to the Piron board about Halo, wearable medical technology that will help cure illnesses by catching them early on. One of the executives doesn’t believe it, but Alec gets him to try it out and discovers something about his health that wasn’t generally known. So initial funding is approved – for two months. However, Dillon figures out that the technology doesn’t yet work; according to Alec Two it nearly does. Dillon isn’t trying to stop him.

Kellog suggest that Jason got to Piron to help Alec Two. Perhaps to get someone inside (Jason also knows Halo from the future, which is a help to Alec Two). Then he later gets a shock when Curtis Chen approaches him, a man he knows to be dead (just how is Curtis alive anyway?). Chen wants Kellog’s help with something – in return he says that he will tell Kellog how to cheat death. Perhaps we are going to find out just how Curtis came back from the dead. Without being a zombie.
