“Fire in Space” is episode fourteen of season one of the classic series of Battlestar Galactica.
Athena and Boxey are in Galactica‘s Rejuvenation Center when Boomer arrives. Blue Squadron is on alert but he has some relaxation time. Then an alert sounds as Cylon Raiders are inbound. The rest of Blue Squadron launches, then, given the number of Raiders, all the other squadrons are too and all the compartments sealed. Boomer explains to Boxey why this is and he’s sure Apollo will protect them.
The Cylons are under orders to ignore the Vipers and Tigh tells Commander Adama that something is wrong. The Vipers are outnumbered but blowing the Cylons out of the skies as the Raiders don’t seem to be fighting back. Apollo reports a couple of broken through and he thinks they are going to ram.
One Raider is heading for the bridge and is destroyed before it hits but close enough to do a lot of damage to the bridge. Another heads for the port landing bay and explodes, causing explosions throughout the ship. Apollo is trying to raise his father, who Tigh finds unconscious. In the Rejuvenation Center, they put out a fire.
Adama is told the damage is bad; they’ve lost deep scans and internal communications. The scanners are destroyed, so he says the Vipers will be their eyes. Dr Salik scans Adama and wants him taken to the Life Center. The fire is spreading through the ship, including outside the Rejuvenation Center, and they have no communications.
Apollo tells Tigh the port landing bay is destroyed; Tigh wants two squadrons to patrol at all times and Blue and Red squadrons to land in the starboard bay. Tigh is told more bad news; the fire is spreading and most of the affected areas have been evacuated, except the Rejuvenation Center, which is cut off.
There, Athena tells Boomer the first aid supplies and masks are destroyed. There’s smoke coming from one door and the other is jammed. Boomer will try and open it as he used to be the equivalent of a car thief in his youth. They will try to keep moving ahead of the fire.
Cassiopeia is told by someone in the Life Center that Boxey, Athena and Boomer are trapped. Apollo arrives and speaks to the doctor. Salik needs to operate, but power is too uncertain currently. The fire is out of control, it’s getting close to taking out the rest of Galactica‘s power and igniting an explosive that will destroy the ship and Adama needs operating on whether it’s safe or not.
