“Turning The Widening Gyre” is episode one of season two of Andromeda.
At the end of the season one finale, “Its Hour Come ‘Round At Last”, things weren’t going well. The Andromeda‘s backup personality had taken the ship to look for the Magog – and encountered them much, much closer than they were when she had originally carried out the same mission, a mission that resulted in the loss of her crew. The galaxy she had originally found them in, when she got there, was just drifting black holes.
The Magog have a huge construction, made from 22 planets joined together with an artificial sun in the middle. There are trillions of Magog in the thing. They are also led by something known as The Abyss, or The Spirit of the Abyss, which was seen in “Harper 2.0”.
The ship is heading to the known worlds of the former Systems Commonwealth, which is really, really bad. Tyr and Harper have been captured, so Dylan and Rommie try to rescue them, and Dylan tells Beka to use the nova bomb he salvaged in “To Loose the Fateful Lightning” on the artificial star, even if he isn’t back.
This is actually an episode I’ve seen before. It must have been episodes from season two I saw the first time around.
