“The Sum of Its Parts” is episode sixteen of season one of Andromeda.
The Andromeda Ascendant is approached by some mechanical parts moving under their own power. Which is kind of unusual. The parts enter the ship and form into a humanoid body – one rather reminiscent of the Borg.
The being is an emissary of The Consensus of Parts – a mythical machine culture formed from discarded parts that lives in the empty spaces between the stars. This is an emissary from them, who wants them to meet one of the controlling intelligences.
The Consensus also has the reputation of preying on people, so is their offer of help to rebuild the Systems Commonwealth genuine or not?
